3.5. A lot of people don’t seem to be a fan and I can understand why. The main character was a bit annoying, as were her friends, and there was no extensive character work, but it was a quick read so I’m not mad about it. This book took a very very strange turn that I was not expecting, but I liked that unexpected element. Just trust me when I say, whatever you THINK is happening here, is not what’s happening here.
Not my favorite in the Percy Jackson universe and I had to get used to Apollo narrating, but still a great story and definitely picking up the next one.
This book was....intense. Watching Grace fall down the rabbit hole that was Gavin was frustrating, hard, cringe-worthy, and at times overwhelming. I actually started reading it because the premise reminded me of Dreamland by Sarah Dessen, which I read a very long time ago. When I first picked up this book I thought that it was going to be about physical abuse in a relationship and I'm glad I was wrong. Not because the physical abuse would have been more uncomfortable, but because when people talk about domestic violence and abuse in a relationship, you rarely hear them discuss emotional and verbal abuse/manipulation which can be just as damaging, if not more so.
This book is essentially Grace's letter or ode to Gavin and the way she tells the story is nerve wrecking and enthralling all at the same time. I will say that I found myself getting so frustrated with Gavin's parents. Towards the end, when it was clear that they blamed Grace for what he tried to do to himself, all I could think was "This is the second time your son has done this to himself over a girl! Maybe the girls are not the problem?!" The amount of pressure his mother seemed to put on her was extremely irritating, especially after she read Grace's letter, which clearly detailed an abusive and unhealthy situation. In fact both her mother and his mother making her feel bad about the letter was just unbelievable to me, because of all the things her mother decides to wake up and notice THAT'S what she's upset about? Okay...sure.
Anyway all in all I really enjoyed Bad Romance. Definitely a great read.

First let me say that I loved the fact that the main character of this book was a WOC. I was a little shocked to see that this was set in the 90s, but considering 90s hip-hop is some of the best I wasn't complaining. Overall this was a great book no matter how much I wanted to shake Rani, the main character. Then again, considering the heavy subject matter of this book, I probably would've been even more frustrated if this had gone easily for her. All in all it's a great read. Be forewarned that Trigger Warning is in full effect with this one (incest, rape, some self harm), but I don't think you'll be disappointed if you give it a try.
Also, the ending seemed abrupt as well as a long time coming if that makes sense. Rani made very poor decisions up until the very last minute of the book which was what was so frustrating about her, but like I said, it's worth read.

Such a cute Cinderella retelling with a twist. Definitely worth the read.
3.5 - a good read, just not great. I really want to be able to give Four Dead Queens a solid 4, because I enjoyed it, but I just can’t. The twists and turns were great. Every time I thought I had everything figured out, here came a big reveal that proved I was wrong (more than once). I love that quality in a book because it keeps you on your toes. I wasn’t expecting to get so many POVs, but I ended up liking that as well. I think my rating comes down to the fact that it took me too long to get invested in the story. Every time I put down the book, I just decided to leave it down for awhile. I didn’t feel the urge to hurry up and pick it back up to find out what was going to happen next. That feeling didn’t show up for me until just about halfway through the book. Things definitely did enter full swing near the 50% mark so I’m glad that I stuck with it.
