The Disasters definitely went above and beyond my expectations. The story itself started off with a bang and was compelling from the beginning, which typically isn't my experience. I also wasn't expecting the representation that this book had; POC main characters, bisexual representation, Muslim and Middle Eastern representation, anxiety, Trans representation all presented themselves as pleasant surprises. M.K. England says that technically this is a standalone novel, but that she does have a sequel/companion novel planned out should HarperTeen ever want a follow-up. The great thing about this is, while the ending does leave room for a sequel, it also doesn't end on a cliffhanger.
I look forward to reading her next novel, which looks to be another standalone set to release next year!

A 3.5 rounded up. I can’t believe it took me so long to pick up this book. I definitely enjoyed it. The attention to details in the characters and storyline were great. It sets itself up perfectly for a follow up book. The pictures in the book definitely gave it a nice touch because they allowed for small breaks in the story, but added a little something extra for understanding.
3.5! I really loved the interpretation and messages surrounding dying and the fear that that creates. Some portions of the story were a little confusing for me and threw me a bit, but I really enjoyed the journey through the inbetween and the overall message about how important having balance in all of our lives is.
4.5. The time frame for me reading this book was so long because I did a readalong with my group for a readathon. I couldn’t put this book down sometimes BUT I’m glad that I prolonged it because it made finishing it that much more satisfying. Great premise, plot and characters. I was able to guess a few things along the way, but that didn’t change how I felt about this book. I’ve seen a lot of comparisons with this and Ready Player One, but I’ve never actually read that book so I can’t speak on that. All I can say is, great read and I can’t wait to buy the sequel.
I really like Legend. I’ll admit it took me awhile took get into it, but once things picked up, it didn’t disappointment. The alternating views between Day and June were great and I have to say this book made me miss the era of Dystopian novels lol
I really enjoyed reading this memoir and I connected with Roxane’s story, maybe not in every way, but definitely in some. This is a story of her body, not just in terms of weight in general, but in terms of trauma, victimhood, survival, society, experience and family and how all of these things were affected by her weight and how they affected her weight. Definitely an intense read with some triggering content (eating disorders, rape, domestic violence, etc), but such an amazing read.
