The Disasters
by M.K. England
The Disasters definitely went above and beyond my expectations. The story itself started off with a bang and was compelling from the beginning, which typically isn't my experience. I also wasn't expecting the representation that this book had; POC main characters, bisexual representation, Muslim and Middle Eastern representation, anxiety, Trans representation all presented themselves as pleasant surprises. M.K. England says that technically this is a standalone novel, but that she does have a sequel/companion novel planned out should HarperTeen ever want a follow-up. The great thing about this is, while the ending does leave room for a sequel, it also doesn't end on a cliffhanger.
I look forward to reading her next novel, which looks to be another standalone set to release next year!
