This was almost really good, and I enjoyed most of it, but the ending was just really disappointing. It had a good (if unoriginal) plot, and the dialogue and witty banter made me chuckle a few times. I really enjoyed the characters. But then the ending happened: spoilers below ⬇️

They talked about mating (bite) several times, but it doesn’t actually happen during the book. Riley doesn’t shift. Marcus shifts like once I think. There’s no epilogue. It felt like the author got bored with the story and couldn’t be bothered to finish it properly.

“Did you know dopamine is also connected to the reward centers of the brain? It’s why praise is such a big turn on for submissives, but I’m sure you’re well aware of that. Tell me, Elias, do you like it when I call you my good boy?”

I really adore this author’s books. I only wish they were all longer. These books are filled with kinks but not that high heat. There’s a lot of intimacy and relationship development, where the kink and sex complement it, where it adds to their story and makes sense for the dynamic. I always appreciate a good story that isn’t ‘sex first, everything else later’. I’ve been wanting to read this specific book in the series for a long time, but Sadism/masochism made me a little nervous for a while, just because I hadn’t really read it before. Turns out I enjoy reading it, especially if Izaia writes it.

“Hmmm?” I mumbled against his shoulder as I pulled him into my arms to cuddle. He might be my Dom, but I claimed the right to be the big spoon.

The dynamic in this book is so good. The Dom of all Doms, owner of his own BDSM club, 37 years old, looks younger, body of a twink, pining so hard for the 30 year old beefy farmboy bartender next door who thinks he might be submissive, but is completely new to kink. Has been pining for the pretty, dominant twink coming in for drinks. Their chemistry was so good and I was sad their book wasn’t much longer.

There were lots of great discussions about kink in general in this, and Izaia is so talented when it comes to writing about different kinks you might never consider being into, something you might not understand at all, and make it so human, so easy to understand.

I’d recommend this entire series to almost anyone.

“But I will grant you this, while I may hurt you, I’ll never harm you.”

“For those of you who might not know my name, I’m Foster Hayes. I am one of The Church's owners, whip master extraordinaire, extremely humble, and I will be your teacher for today. Those of you who do know my name, please don’t believe anything you’ve heard about me. It’s all lies.”

“I watch over the submissives at the club because there are always people out there who want to take advantage of them. We take care of our own because no one else is going to take care of us. I watch out for the Doms, too, because no one ever thinks they need it, but they do. They can be hurt just like anyone else.”

There was that word again: mine. I wanted to shout it from the rooftop, buy billboards around town. Let everyone know. Instead, I placed a kiss on the delicate skin below Elias’s ear and whispered it to the one person who mattered, “Mine.”

He studies me, searching my eyes for something. What is he looking for? I’m suddenly anxious to help him find it. Whatever he wants, whatever he needs, I want to be the one to give it to him.

I’m not at all surprised, but Linden Bell does it again. I am so impressed by this author’s ability to write something that would top most people’s spice chart, yet pack it full of intimacy, romance and emotional moments. This book is low angst yet filled with tension, and it really nailed that balance of avoiding boredom. A romance book does not need to be filled with drama and breakups to feel genuine and exciting, and this is a really good example of that. There’s some really lovely character development that felt realistic, and it all blended into my favorite kinda book: intimate, emotional and sweet. The spice was out of this world as per usual, and you should keep a fan handy while reading this.

I’m drunk on Rhys. I’m dizzy with him.

I’ll always be the first to say that I’m very ‘meh’ about feet and shoes, but man it fit this story and characters so well. It was frankly stupidly hot, and felt like straight up worship.

“What’s wrong? What happened?” If he’s hurt… if someone hurt him… I won’t be held responsible for what I do in retaliation.

Highly recommend this book.

He leads this dance, guiding me with his tongue and his hands, making me spin until I’m dizzy, flipping me upside down and inside out. I’m lost to the sensations he wrings from me, but I don’t actually feel lost. Rhys knows where we are and where we’re going, and I trust him to lead the way.

My d-ck was just inside his butt a moment ago. And now he’s sucking on it with his mouth. It’s dirty. It’s filthy. And I think I might come just from how wrong it feels.

And yet, my cheek is still warm from the kiss Ricky—or maybe Rhys—planted on me. My hand floats up to the spot. It doesn’t feel any different under my fingertips. There’s no cut or burn or anything. But the ghost of that kiss lingers, a very real wisp that I can’t quite grasp.

“What was that, grumpy?” I asked, raising my brows. “I’m not grumpy,” he huffed, his gaze flicking back to me. “And I said I don’t deserve you.” […] There was no point in arguing with him, let alone trying to explain that love was one of those things in life that was supposed to be given freely, unconditionally. And for reasons I couldn’t answer, I loved him with all of my heart.

Oh what a lovely ending to Roan and Sasha’s story. It was fucking rough getting there, but these guys got a truly lovely ending and HEA. I really wanted everything to be okay for them.

This book was angstier than the first one for me because a lot of the issues were internal, both independently for the characters and in their relationship. They’re trying to heal from and get through the aftermath of Roan’s assault in book 1, and they can’t quite seem to get it right. It felt like a realistic portrayal of dealing with that kind of physical and emotional trauma. Unfortunately that also means shit communication, anger, jealousy, lashing out at each other, etc. They are still very much in love with each other and they stay together, but it’s not smooth.

I really loved that there was no ‘one moment’ or specific happening that made Roan better. It was super gradual and it required time and safety.

It was awesome to see Roan plot and plan his revenge, and I think he really needed that too. Slowly seeing Sasha open up a bit (very little, he is still a stoic Russian who pretends he doesn’t have feelings) was also neat. He found a way to give Roan enough of himself. To be a little vulnerable when they needed it.

He was going to kill me. I knew it. In the time we’d been together, the orchard checked off almost everything Sasha hated: people (specifically children), dirt, Halloween, and anything that brought a normal person joy, like apple pies and pumpkin candles.

There’s also just something about Sasha’s unapologetic dickishness and deadpan delivery that cracks me up a lot.

I wasn’t ready to walk away from Sasha—especially when none of this shit was his fault. But it seemed like no matter what I did, I couldn’t pull myself out of my own misery. I knew I was drowning both of us, yet there was nothing I could do to stop it.

Roan has a friend at work who wants to date him and he’s a little pushy, and Sasha finds out about it in a way that makes it angsty and makes the reader think there might be more drama there (reading Roan’s texts). Sasha also has a colleague who Roan is briefly jealous of and has a few moments of insecurity because they have to spend a lot of time together, including in clubs. “You know that game Kiss, Kill, or Fuck? Well, you’re all three for me, and I don’t even know how that’s possible.” He finally smiled. A proper Chase Soria smile. “You wanna kiss and fuck me?” “And kill.” “Those odds are still pretty good.”

I wasn’t originally planning on reading this book because going off of the tropes and the blurb, it’s not really my cup of tea. It is N. R. Walker though, and I had access to the audiobook so figured I’d give it a go. It is definitely still not a book made for me, but not bad or anything. It was well written and entertaining. Nick J. Russo narrating certainly helps.

Although fake dating and college romances isn’t for me, I am a big fan of tactile/cuddly characters, and we’ve got a black cat MC and a golden retriever MC, which definitely creates fun and endearing moments and dynamics. (Oh, and the bigger guy bottoms, which is

“All I’ve ever wanted was for you to be happy. But I also want to be part of that happiness.”

This was a sweet slow burn romance. Very low angst, not a lot happening beyond two characters slowly falling in love. Which was nice, but I also definitely prefer a little more happening. I thought the mental health aspect was dealt with well and I appreciated that the MC getting better was a slow process and that he wasn’t ‘cured’ magically.

Unfortunately there’s like a million Harry Potter references in this book, and even though the book was published in 2017, it’s difficult to not be bothered by it when it’s such a large part of the characters and not just a quick mention.

Daddy Cal had left the building, and in his place stood my Dom, in all his sexy glory. Shirtless and dressed in an old, frayed pair of black denim jeans, he oozed authority and dominance.

It’s difficult to put my finger on it, but there’s something about this particular world and small town that I really, really love. It just feels so real to me. The characters are so genuine and realistic, and I want to be a part of their friend group. They have the best kind of found family. It’s like I can damn near see the British coastal village in my head and smell the dang ocean while I’m reading it.

Outside stuff aside, I have been looking forward to Mouse’s book since the first time I read Viking Ink. He’s perfectly broken and in need of someone to see through his bs, and Cal is perfect for him. I was kicking my feet with joy when their relationship started evolving, I was so excited for them, lol. They are super cute and sweet but also burn-the-sheets hot. For example, fisting really isn’t usually my thing but the way it was written in this book? *fans self*

It’s heavy on spice and kink, both sexual and non-sexual, but it didn’t feel like that was all there was. Their kinky and sexual exploration together felt like a part of their journey and was important to their relationship development as well as important for Mouse’s mental health and healing from grief and guilt. I thought it was really well navigated.

“If you try your hardest to be a good boy for me, I’ll reward you with all the pain you can handle.”

If you’re like me and love the sweetness and kindness that often comes with daddy kink and age play but you’d also like to read more about pain play and more intense impact play, then this is the book for you.

I hope we get some play date scenes (maybe a short novella or a bonus chapter?) with Mouse and Rhys playing in their Middle and Little space together. Those two are absolute rascals and very cute.

Again, there’s something about this little world the author is creating I really enjoy and I can’t wait to keep experiencing their development. I’m also stupidly excited for Doc’s book. That man is a hoot.

PS: it’s refreshing to read about men of all ages, looks and body types finding love and being kinky.

Fisher’s crush on me could probably be seen from space it was so obvious, but as much as he’d grown into a very appealing man, I could not go there with him.

This was very sweet and cute, and had just enough emotional pain to keep it interesting. I’m a huge fan of the ‘dad’s best friend’ trope, but this is the very first ‘dad’s enemy’ book I’ve read. It was a fun twist on a favorite and now I want to read more of the sort.

Both Fisher and Hudson were endearing characters, even though I didn’t expect to love Hudson much. Just goes to show that we don’t have to be young to be insecure or hurt.

The book had excellent small town vibes and I really saw the Ozarks in my head while reading. I’d for sure like to read more about the side characters too, which is rare for me.

He couldn’t pretend Hunter’s magnetism was just because Jonathan was fascinated by him or felt protective of him. Those things weren’t untrue, but they were cased in how badly Jonathan wanted to kiss him.

This book was incredibly sweet and full of intimacy and romance, and I loved it. It’s got an uncomplicated sexual awakening with a man who might be my new favorite book boyfriend. A shy man with a resting bitch face who is actually the most loving, sweet and vulnerable man ever. I think he’s what you’d call swoon-worthy for sure.

It’s sort of high heat, but it fit with the characters and their relationship development, so it never felt unnecessary or like a case of spice just to have spice, if that makes any sense.

Definitely recommend if you’re looking for low angst, tactile MCs, intimate and spicy.

It even had a bit of a Daddy vibe (but no actually Daddy kink), just the ‘I want to take care of you and make you smile and blow your mind in bed while you focus on being the perfect prince you are’ kinda vibe, lol. I’m here for it.

This was what Jonathan loved—having the person he took to bed lie back and relax while he did the heavy lifting. He gained confidence simply from Hunter letting him be in charge.

All he wanted was to feel small in a man’s arms and to get absolutely taken apart.

Jonathan was a no-nonsense kind of guy, which was a demeanor that was mysterious to Hunter, a plenty-of-nonsense kind of guy.

Jonathan kissed Hunter like he wanted to erase his bad feelings. Like he wanted to protect Hunter from any sadness.
