The coordination it took to suck two guys off was insane.

I still haven’t read a Jayda Marx book that wasn’t pure fluff, and that’s alright. I always know what to expect going in and that really works for me. If you want low angst, two brothers sharing small cutie, instalove and hot sharing scenes, then definitely give this one a try. It’s also borderline taboo because the brothers rub dongs inside their boyfriend. They’re not into each other but clearly don’t mind a bit of touching, lol.

Objectively? 3 stars. Pure enjoyment? 4 stars.

Beau was struggling to hold on to himself. Without Griffin, the tentative grasp he had on his sense of self began to slip.

I enjoyed this more than I expected, because I totally judge every book by its cover. The concept felt original and it was a lot of fun, which is weird to say about a story that is very sad. It tugged on my heart a few times, and I would recommend taking a gander at the content warnings. A couple of them you won’t see much in MM romance.

Beau was an absolute sweetheart. He was protective of his omega, but was also more than happy to let Griffin stay in charge of the pack and their life. He was very cuddly and got attached fast. It was just very sweet.

Griffin is a badass omega with a big chip on his shoulder. Always being treated like ‘less’ and submissive just because of his designation definitely resulted in him struggling with being vulnerable, so they had some learning to do together to make their relationship work well.

Genuinely entertaining and sweet with some sad stuff thrown in. The action and suspenseful moments were kinda glossed over which was a shame, as those are usually my favorite parts. And although it wasn’t too terrible and I understood most if it through context, it would definitely be better to read book 1 first as there is some past happenings and seemingly some overarching plot that I felt like I was missing.

A hand touched his back, Griffin’s voice surrounding him again. Beau turned, seeking out the omega, the one person in all the world who grounded him, who made living bearable. Launching himself forward, he held onto him with everything he had.

How did you separate the man from the beast when the two became so intertwined, so locked together, that they seemed to be one animal, one tormented creature?

“That’s it,” Griffin encouraged. “It’s okay now. It’ll be okay, I promise.” He had no idea what he was promising. Safety? A home? A life? Beau needed so much, and Griffin could only hope he had enough to give.

Things got better at such a slow pace that, some days, Griffin felt he could be forgiven for thinking they were getting worse.

And then I dug a little grave in the frozen ground for the strange exotic fish that had once been a knife. File that among sentences I never thought I’d say.

This was a cool monster romance with some entertaining aspects. The first half in particular was really good. It did get pretty repetitive for a while though, which was a shame. The ending picked up again in terms of actual plot, but unfortunately I didn’t care about the overall plot or the bad guy.

“Listen here, son. Life is short. Be gay. Have all the anal you want.”

Similarities to the Monstrous series by Lily Mayne:

Cross-country roadtrip in an RV ✅
Humans infected by parasites ✅
Tendrils around the monster dong that suction onto stuff ✅
Soldier MC going AWOL ✅
Captured monsters experimented on ✅
Evil military guy ✅
Sweet monster who loses it with no control when provoked ✅
Tear between the monster realm and human world that acts as a portal for the monsters ✅
Monster who knows all the languages and has endless knowledge from ancestors ✅

I’m not saying this means anything, but that is way too many similarities with other books, so I couldn’t quite ignore it or appreciate it fully. I didn’t realize this was the same author, but they have another series that is veeery similar to Necessary Evils by Onley James. Do with that what you will.

Bud let out a small whimper of need. “W-will it fit?”

It was entertaining and I had a fairly good time reading it, but ultimately ended up being a bit ‘meh’.

Bud cocked his head. “Fooled around means… intercourse?” “Jesus, Bud,” I breathed and turned away, my face heating.

He tilted his head to the side. “Dick?” “Cock.” He still seemed confused, so I gestured vaguely between his legs. “You know. Mating organ.” “You mean you only have one penis,” he said a little cheerfully. “Don’t worry. It’s nothing to be ashamed of. That is normal for your species, I believe.”

“I ain’t homophobic,” he insisted. I sighed. “You’re Catholic. Same difference.” “I like to say I’m a recovering Catholic.”

At over six feet myself, feeling small and delicate was a moment to treasure. Bear always managed to make it happen though. I always felt like a proper little around him.

ARC review

I could tell what this book wanted to be, but it didn’t quite hit it, unfortunately. It was mainly negatively affected by a serious lack of consistency in plot details as well as the fact that it didn’t seem like Owen actually wanted to be with Barrett for large parts of the book. We keep hearing about how they have been best friends for 10+ years and have been in love and pining all that time, but they seem to barely know each other, and Owen doesn’t trust Barrett. By the end I’m not sure I wanted them to be together as they seemed to have incompatible personalities.

Some of the plot was cute and it could’ve been really good if simplified and shortened, but things kept being added and it felt very contrived. They have sex at 19% and we don’t learn that they’re actually officially a couple until the epilogue at 94%, and all that time in between Owen keeps repeating the same internal thoughts about how they are incompatible (they clearly aren’t, it’s just conveniently ignored for the sake of drama), which could’ve been cleared up with communication.

This feels really negative now, but it’s always a shame when it’s nearly really good. So much of the book builds on the fact that these guys are best friends, but they genuinely don’t feel like it, which then affects absolutely everything.

Also, a main character micromanaging someone else to the degree that is mentioned in the book is not endearing or fun. It’s a big red flag.

This is still what I’d call a baby author so I fully expect many of these things (including editing) to improve with time. You can tell that the ideas and bones for something really good is there.

The age play and play dates with the other Littles was adorable and I enjoyed the focus on Owen struggling with his own regression and the development of him getting comfortable with Barrett and his friends. I always enjoy kinky rep where the MCs aren’t the ‘typical’ type/body that is expected.

Once I had the food in front of him, I realized my mistake. Giving pasta and sauce to someone who regressed as far as Owen did was a recipe for disaster, especially since we didn’t have a change of clothes.

Why hadn’t he figured out how to read my mind? A real friend would have done it by now.

On the one hand, Mike had no shame about sex and he constantly pushed me to have it, so I shouldn’t be ashamed of having taken his advice. On the other hand, I had slept with his father, which, I was pretty sure wasn’t what he’d had in mind.

Cute, quick and no angst. Exactly what I was in the mood for at the time. Nice to see one of these where the older MC isn’t hella hesitant, and even was the one pursuing. Best friend’s dad ftw.

He stuck the toy to the sleek surface of the coffee table—his ridiculously pricey Japanese cherry wood table. “Sit, please.” Oh Lord.

I actually think Roe Horvat is too spicy for me. I like the stories but it gets to a point for me where it’s not even hot anymore, just makes me grimace, and that is totally on me. The writing is good and Roe writes spice like few others. I just need something more for the spice to build on.

The word ‘tits’ was used 40 times, which I personally think is about 40 times too many in an MM story without feminization, lol.

I don’t remember his name, but the alpha’s entire personality can be summed up with this gif. I’m not even sure he actually likes the other MC. Just likes his tits.

I know it’s erotica and there’s only so much you can expect in terms of romantic vibes and a connection, but I need some chemistry with my spice. Maybe the genre isn’t for me.

Ugh, this was almost really, really good. It had all the necessary parts to become one of my favorite books by this author, but it really disappointed me in some key areas that I can’t ignore. Mainly, how Iz’s issues with his parents are resolved. It didn’t feel right for him at all, and it ended up going in the complete opposite direction of what I wanted and what I expected from everything that was said and told. His parents also went from being horribly homophobic to suddenly not at all with no explanation or reasoning, and it all felt unrealistic.

All of that doesn’t even get into how incredibly annoyed I got with Iz at a couple points in the book. I can objectively understand that some people self destruct when struggling, but this man just acted plain old stupid. You feel like you rely on your best friend too much? The only logical solution is to ignore him for days on end and then get pissy and sad when he stops contacting you. They way I rolled my eyes. Don’t even get me started on how oblivious he is. Sometimes oblivious idiots in love are cute, and sometimes it makes me want to punt a character into the atmosphere.

Anyway. Could’ve been amazing. The whole idea behind the ‘switched’ storyline was clever and original, and it had some really good parts with wonderful found family. Just fucked itself with the unrealistic reconciliation that felt like a massive finger to every queer kid who got treated like shit and never had any support or love, and whose parents miraculously never miraculously had a personality transplant later in life.

Things I did not have on my 2024 bingo card:

1. N. R. Walker giving me the ick
2. Thinking a book would’ve been better without daddy kink

Yanni’s healing and journey during this book was beautiful. It felt like it was done well and in a healthy way. Certainly no magic dick in sight. Yanni and Peter were well matched and had a lovely caretaking relationship. The found family aspect was so sweet and lovely, and it just made me happy to see Yanni go to therapy and slowly work through his trauma and generally reclaiming his life.

However. I get the impression the author isn’t very familiar with daddy kink. I certainly hope that’s the case. Yanni and Peter’s dynamic didn’t actually feel off or yucky in any way, but literally every time the kink and their dynamic was talked about, I made this face:

First off, there were some pretty (possibly) harmful stereotypes and generalizations, including how daddy kink is about the age gap and size difference, where the daddy is older and bigger, and the boy is young, twinky and hairless. Literally anyone can be a daddy or a boy. The last thing that matters is how you look and it made me sad to read how it was described.

Second, the dynamic was referred to as ‘daddy/son’ several times, which just made me uncomfortable. The role of the daddy was described to as being a sort of father figure (but with benefits and less incest <- almost exact quote), which is yucky and just plain wrong. I have read more books with daddy kink than I can count, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen father/son being brought into it, not even with hardcore age play books. It all felt so removed from the actual relationship, because it didn’t feel creepy, but any time it was discussed it made me feel like my soul cringed so hard it inverted itself.

The book was absolutely lovely and perfect when I was able to forget about the kink, and if any of the things I just mentioned won’t bother you then I highly recommend it, but man. Difficult to ignore. I love this kink more than any other kink so I like to think I have a fair amount of understanding and ability to let things slide.

The book was full of understanding, therapy, cute dates and great communication. When the spice hit (it’s a slow burn), it was incendiary. It was a slow starter but it made sense for Yanni and his story that it took a while.

I don’t know what else to say about it. Could’ve been one of my favorite N. R. Walker books, but they can’t all be winners.

I wanted romance. I wanted to fall in love with a man. I wanted to be loved by a man in return, to know what that felt like. I wanted it with him.

A really sweet little holiday book. I was enjoying it quite a lot, and Glen Lloyd did a great job with the audio (as he always does). Something is revealed about one of the MCs eventually that really affected my enjoyment (see content warnings), which was a massive shame, but no matter the circumstances, that’s not something I have understanding for. Thankfully it didn’t really fit who the MC was during the book so I was able to finish the book and enjoyed it a fair amount.

It was cute, and I always enjoy a single dad book, but I don’t really have a lot of thoughts about it. Can definitely recommend it if you want an easy and christmasy read though.

Plus points for the cutest darn cover.
