Wow! I loved this book so much! This is, without a doubt, one of my favorite books I have read this year. Great story and such a pleasure to read. I read this book in one sitting- I could not stop reading! The story just flowed seamlessly from one part to the next and all the words just jumped off the page. There was not one boring moment at all. The characters, the story, the details- all amazing! I don't even know what else to say without just gushing the same thing over and over again.
Let's start with the characters. Amelia had something about her; I instantly liked her. I loved going on the journey with her as she learned about her past and how she died. I have not read many ghost stories but I never thought about them not remembering their life. I really liked the way Tara Hudson described this area- as a ghost Amelia kind of started over and had to piece everything else together. It was like a mystery, wrapped in a paranormal, and mixed with an AWESOME romance.
Joshua is the boy in this story- and I want him all for myself! He is one of my favorite book boys that I have read about in such a long time! He has such a strong faith in Amelia and it never wavers. I love that so much. Another thing I loved was the romance aspect in this book was major! That was such a nice surprise, since so many of the books I have been reading lately have just been hinting at romance. Hereafter did not hint, it full on put the romance in the spotlight. And I devoured it! I love how Joshua was the only one that could make Amelia feel any kind of sensation- this meant a lot of touching in this book! yay! and I also loved how Tara Hudson described their touch as heating up like a fire. I thought that was a really cool way of describing how things are different for the two of them, since Amelia is a ghost.
Everything came together in such a nice and satisfying way. I loved everything about this book. I am not sure if there is going to be a second book because the ending kind of left some questions unanswered but still wrapped things up. So maybe that means there is a possibility of a sequel? I sure hope so! Wonderful book!

This book was a great thriller. I really liked the concept of it and it certainly was pretty scary. It is a short read but it it was jam packed with action and suspense. It definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat for pretty much the whole story. It starts out with a past murder, and then shifts into present day- where all the action begins.
What I liked most about this story was that it was so fast paced. Since it was a thriller/suspense story, I appreciated that there were no slow parts. And because of this, I never got bored, everything was moving in this book. It was a short, fast read- but a ton of stuff is packed into the 120 pages. I had to keep reading to see what was going to happen next. I also appreciate that there were some deaths. Not that I enjoy the death of characters, or anything, but it helps a story seem more realistic. If you have a book and there are killers running around (especially in a single house) and every single person in the story survives; it is not very likely. So I enjoyed the realistic element. It also kept me on my toe, wondering if my favorite characters would make it out.
I also really liked the way that "house trap" was designed. the details of everything were fantastic. This book is well written and flows really nicely. I could picture the house in my mind and see the kids all running from room to room.
This book is a great, fast read for someone that is looking for a suspense/thriller.

This book was really funny! I was so pleasantly surprised by that, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It was a short story, but it didn't seem too short. I thought it was a really good length for the story that was being told. It reminded me of the hangover with all of the crazy antics going on. But it wasn't too outrageous- everything came together in the end. And everything was there for a reason. I really like that in a book.
I also really enjoyed the main character, Ben. I could really relate to him, and felt so bad for him at the beginning of the book, when he was describing all the women that have left him for other guys throughout his life. But even the sad parts of the book were written very humorously. Cristian YoungMiller has a way with writing humor very successfully.
Ben's friend Carey bugged me in this book though. She was my least favorite character. She just blurted out things about her and Ben's past without even thinking about it or the consequences it might have. And even when the consequences presented themselves- she didn't even seem to care. She didn't seem very genuine. I even liked her boyfriend, Chip, more than her. I at least found him funnier. But other than Carey, I have no complaints about this book. It was a fast paced, fun read. It put me in a good mood and I read it in no time. I really enjoyed this funny and cute book!

I'm so glad I finished reading this book! It started a little slow for me and it took like 90 or so pages for me to become interested. This is pretty strange for me. Normally I know within the first 25-50 pages if I am going to like a book or not. Had I gone by my impression after the first 50 pages I probably would have just stopped reading. Not that the beginning of the book was bad or anything, but it just didn't grab me and immerse me into it's world. It was just pretty slow. But I decided to keep reading, and boy am I glad that I did. I ended up really, really liking this book! All the slow plot set up really helped to build an awesome steampunk world. (This was my first adventure into the awesome-ness that is steampunk.)
The story just kept getting better and better and I became so intrigued that once I was like 60% done with the book, I could just not put it down. That is what I like to happen when I am reading, so I was very pleasantly surprised.
Finley was a really unique character, and I loved the little love triangle that was going on. Each time the story hinted at romance or jealousy, I would get excited. I really hope to see more of that in the next book.
My favorite part of this story were definitely the machines and the organites. I was fascinated reading and learning about them. I want to read more steampunk right now!

I love this series! I think I liked this book even more than the first one! I am a history nerd so I was so excited when the french revolution was worked into this book. And Surprised! I did not see it coming- great twist! This book had just as much going on as the first one. But while the first one was non-stop moving and action; this book took some more time to develop the characters and their own stories more. I loved both approaches. The first book grabs your attention and this one is really satisfying because I felt like I really got to know everyone. I loved it!
I loved learning more about the characters pasts. I think that was my favorite thing about the book. Seeing how everyone's sub-story and past fit into the bigger plot of the book. I loved meeting Edel and learning about him. I liked him so much. He genuinely liked Cameo and you can tell that he really was happy to have a companion. He really wanted her there forever because he was so lonely. He was 180 degrees different than cameo's master. Where the master is cruel, Edel is more kind. He was as human as a vampire can get. Great character.
I was also really happy with the way that Cameo and Opal's relationship developed in this book. Cameo took some huge steps in admitting that Opal meant something to her. It was so agonizing seeing them in two different places for most of the story and knowing that they wanted to be together and could not.
The ending was so sad. I really, really hope there is going to be another book because I want to know what is going to happen with everyone. I didn't like the ending very much because I did not want this book to end! At all!! I wanted to keep reading for another few hundred pages. I flipped the page on my kindle and it just said "end" at the top and I literally yelled out "no!!" because I was not prepared for the book to be over. I need more Cameo. I am also hoping for a little bringing the dead back, magic for a certain vampire. I really am loving this series and I can't wait for another book!

This book was pretty good! It definitely picked up towards the end. I was a little skeptical to start this series but I won the second book and I got a bind up of the 3rd and 4th book for so cheap, so I was just waiting on the first book to give this series a try. A friend of mine let me borrow the first book so I figured "why not give it a go?"
It started off fine, but somewhere around page 30, I started to lose interest. I really liked all the characters, but it just seemed like nothing too exciting was happening. The middle of the book kind of dragged for me. But I slowly made my way through it and somewhere around page 100, the story started picking up again. The storyline was in full swing and I had grown attached to Claire and Shane. And even Michael and Eve. This is when I really started liking the story. Right around when they found out about the book that the vampires were looking for.
I'm really glad that the book grabbed my attention towards the end, because it has all the makings of a great series and now I am really interested to see where it goes. I read an excerpt from the second book and it looks like at least part of it will be through Eve's point of view. That should be interesting. I like to see how different characters see the same events as they are happening.
Overall, I am glad that I finished this book, because the ending changed my opinion of it considerably. The characters are good, the main storyline is good and it has the potential to throw some good twists and turns in to keep things interesting. I'm going to see where book two goes and hopefully there will not be as many slow parts as this one. Sometimes the first book in a series has to do some boring groundwork to give details and background information for the rest of the books. I'm hoping that's what the middle of this book was for.

I have been on such a great book streak! I think this is 3 or 4 books in a row that I have absolutely LOVED! This is the way reading should be; I should finish reading a book with a big smile on my face. That is what happened when I finished Spellbound. I could not stop smiling. I just loved the book. I loved Brendan, I loved Emma, and I loved the story.
I have really been into books about witches and the supernatural lately, and this one did not disappoint at all. It had age old curses and some spells and lots of excitement. Not to mention the totally sigh worthy Brendan. Seriously, how perfect did he seem? He was such a nice guy, genuinely nice. You don't see too much of that anymore in YA; now people like to write about the dark, mysterious bad boy. And don't get me wrong, while I do love a bad boy once in a while, I always catch myself gravitating back towards the nice good boy. I remember thinking to myself early on in the story, "wow, Brendan seems too good to be true" and then crossing my fingers that he was that good. And the attraction between Emma and Brendan was too cute. I loved reading about it and I could not get enough of it.
The one thing I did not like so much were the length of the medieval stories. I know they were needed to get background information about the necklace, but I thought they dragged on for too long. When I was about 75% done with the side story, I had had enough of it. I think this was because I wanted to get back into the main story and back into the Brendan and Emma action. But honestly the rest of the story is so amazing that it really overshadows the few pages you have to plod through of background story. Its totally worth it!
I loved how this story ended but I want more of it! I'm not sure if there is going to be another book about Brendan and Emma, but I sure hope there is. There was an excerpt that seemed like it was going to be from Angelique's point of view. This could be really cool, since I liked her character, but I really want to see more of Brendan- so I hope he is still a main player in the next book.
You need to buy this book on June 28th! You will not be sorry!

This book is a quick read. It is a nice, short introduction for what seems to be a very promising series! I will admit that at some points early on in the story I was as confused as Wendell (the main character) appeared. But it worked well to show the mystery surrounding the alien land.
I loved the narrator of the story. He was funny and philosophical all at the same time. He would interject thoughts and facts at random times in the story, and I thought that they were a really nice break. I also loved his little introductions at the start of each chapter. I really hope the next books have this same style and that the chapters start off the same way. I thought it was really fun.
I will say that at some points I was thinking, "ok where is the action? When is the hero stuff going to start?" but then I remembered that this book is Prelude to a hero, so it was just setting the stage up for what I think is going to be a pretty epic series. Jaime Buckley has created such an interesting and complex world that some background information seemed necessary to get readers up to speed for this story. I do hope this means that in the next book we get to jump right into the a quest or something. That will be so exciting!
I love that we will be seeing more of Dax in the next book too. He seems so funny! Wendell and Dax should make quite the pair!
So while this book is more of an introduction to the series, I think it is worth reading because it does a really good job of allowing you to get to know the characters. I feel like I was with Wendell on this whole journey. I was confused when he was, and I was torn about what decision he should make. That is good writing. I can't wait to see where the rest of the series goes!

This book was thrilling! I have been trying to think of the right word to describe this book, something to do it justice, and thrilling is really the only word that came to mind. This book seriously just kept building and building and blindsiding me and surprising me up until the very last word on the very last page. I was on the edge of my seat, and I loved it!
I will say that I was a little confused at first. The story just jumps right into this crazy, elaborate, completely different world, and it took me a little while to get my bearings reading about it. But once I did, I was entranced by Incarceron. By the prison, by the book, by the writing- all of it!
I liked all the characters. I liked how nice and determined Finn was, and how Brave Attia was, and how feisty Claudia was. But even more than that, I was fascinated by the world. The world is what drew me into the book and kept me interested. The prison was crazy! It was so creepy and scary and horrible, and yet it was such a puzzle. Kind of like the arenas in The Hunger Games.
The "outside" was equally fascinating to me. Everything was created, nothing is real it seems. It was just so cool to read about this insanely intricate and unfathomable world that Catherine Fisher created. She did such an amazing job! It seemed like a beautiful work of art to me. I could not put it down. I made the mistake of bringing this book with me to work one day, and I was so absorbed in it that I did not even notice the customers standing right in front of me sometimes. (oops)
I cannot wait to read the sequel! I need to run to the library ASAP. (stupid book buying ban!)

I really liked this book! I enjoyed it a lot more than the first one. I'm glad because I thought parts of the first book were kind of slow, and I was hoping this was just because it was the first book in the series and it needed to lay the groundwork so to speak. I am happy to report that this book did not have any slow spots for me. I sped right through the whole book in one sitting and I am itching to start reading the third book right now.
This book was much more my speed. Probably because I already knew the characters and could jump right into the action of the story. It also helped that I got to see some Claire and Shane action, which was awesome! We also got to meet some new vampires and of course there was drama surrounding Monica. This book had a lot more fighting and vampire action than the first one. This helped to keep it exciting.
I was not at all prepared for the surprise twist towards the end. It was definitely a shock for me! I can't wait to see how this twist is going to play into the next books. I'm sure it will cause some conflicts. Ok, now that I am really starting to like this series a lot, it's onto the next book!
I don't know why, but for some reason when I am reading and reviewing a series I can never think of too much to say for the middle books. I think it is partly because I have already formed and talked about my opinions of the character. But oh well, short reviews are good too.
