Glass Houses
by Rachel Caine
This book was pretty good! It definitely picked up towards the end. I was a little skeptical to start this series but I won the second book and I got a bind up of the 3rd and 4th book for so cheap, so I was just waiting on the first book to give this series a try. A friend of mine let me borrow the first book so I figured "why not give it a go?"
It started off fine, but somewhere around page 30, I started to lose interest. I really liked all the characters, but it just seemed like nothing too exciting was happening. The middle of the book kind of dragged for me. But I slowly made my way through it and somewhere around page 100, the story started picking up again. The storyline was in full swing and I had grown attached to Claire and Shane. And even Michael and Eve. This is when I really started liking the story. Right around when they found out about the book that the vampires were looking for.
I'm really glad that the book grabbed my attention towards the end, because it has all the makings of a great series and now I am really interested to see where it goes. I read an excerpt from the second book and it looks like at least part of it will be through Eve's point of view. That should be interesting. I like to see how different characters see the same events as they are happening.
Overall, I am glad that I finished this book, because the ending changed my opinion of it considerably. The characters are good, the main storyline is good and it has the potential to throw some good twists and turns in to keep things interesting. I'm going to see where book two goes and hopefully there will not be as many slow parts as this one. Sometimes the first book in a series has to do some boring groundwork to give details and background information for the rest of the books. I'm hoping that's what the middle of this book was for.
