Any Boy but You is the first book in the young adult contemporary romance series, called North Pole Minnesota by Julie Hammerle. I have Julie's other book, the Sound of Us sitting on my TBR pile, but after having read Any Boy But You, I need to bump it up the pile. Because Any Boy But You was super cute. I loved the concept behind it.

Elena and Oliver start texting anonymously through a popular app game, but little do they know they are from rival sporting goods families. I cracked up when I saw the concept behind the story. Like a modern day Romeo and Juliet, but for the texting and app generation. It was super cute. I totally dug the fun and flirty writing style, and I adored the characters. The book is set up in my favorite narration style as well...dual narrative with both Elena and Oliver's points of view.

The writing in Any Boy But You is great. It is quipy, with plenty of pop culture references and it just makes you happy. This is a feel good read if there ever was one. It put a smile on my face. It is a bit predictable, but in the way I wanted it to be. I easily finished Any By But you in one sitting, and I was grinning from ear to ear by the time I was done.

Bottom line: If you are looking for a light read full of great characters, fluffy fun and a good ole family rivalry, Any Boy but you by Julie Hammerle is the book for you. This is a quick, feel good read that is super fun. I can't wait to travel back to the land of North Pole, Minnesota for the next book in this fun series.

Weariland is a young adult fantasy retelling by Mary Shotwell. Weariland is perfect for fans new and old alike of alice in wonderland. Weariland is a modern day take on wonderland. I really enjoyed this story. You might know by now that Wonderland retellings are my favorite kind of retelling, because I feel like there is so much the author has to work with. Alice in Wonderland is one of my favorite classics. I love how magical it all is, there are so many cool characters to work with. Wonderland is a complete world, so there are just a million different directions a retelling can go.

Weariland takes place a few generations after the story of Wonderland leaves off. Here we get to see Alice's granddaughter, Lason. And Wonderland is not the same place we knew from the classic tale. It is now a place called weariland and the Queen of Souls rules over the land. I loved this broken and creepy concept. This felt like a dark tale. I loved that we got to see kind of familiar characters, but at the same time they were totally new. They are wonderland's inhabitants descendants. This whole set up was a really cool concept.

I love anything that has to do with Wonderland, and weariland was no exception. This was a really cool, twisted book. There is no romance, which I was a little bummed about, but the story was twisty and turny enough to keep my interest. Bottom line: If you love wonderland retellings that have a cool take on wonderland, Weariland is the book for you. You will love this creepy setup.

This is the first book I have read by Sara, but it won't be my last because I really enjoyed this cute read. It was a quick and satisfying, (mostly) fluffy read. Fans of small town romances will enjoy Hometown Cowboy, and the cast of characters will leave you excited to journey back to this town for future couple's stories.

Hometown Cowboy is Jessa and Lance's tale. Lance starts out as a cocky son of a gun, and Jessa is sweet as pie. I was a little worried that he was going to be too much of a jerk for sweet little Jessa Mae, but surprisingly he won me over. They worked well together. The book follows a bit of a predictable plotline, but it turned out just the way I wanted it to. My favorite part of all was the chemistry between Jessa and Lance. They have chemistry and URST in spades.

The cast of secondary characters was great as well. They will lend themselves nicely to future books and pairs. I can't wait to come back to the Rocky Mountain Riders series to see what happens with the rest of the crew. The only thing that was lacking for me, was a bit of the romance towards the end. Before I knew it, I was at the epilogue, and while I loved it, I wanted to see more of how they got there. I wanted to see a little bit more of the journey for Jessa and Lance. But overall, this was a good read. I will be continuing on in this series for sure.

My Thoughts

Chain Reaction is the third book in the adult romantic suspense, Bodyguard series by Tara Wyatt. I have not read either of the first two books in the series, however; I have a thing for bodyguard stories, so when I saw Chain Reaction float into my email, I couldn't pass it up. The books can be read as standalones, and I had no problem picking up with this installment. The plot sounds yummy, and it totally was! I really enjoyed this steamy bodyguard tale. There is lots of bickering, plenty of action and a sexy romance. Yes, please.

Chain Reaction is Alexa and Zack's story. This book has so many things going for it. First, a bodyguard. Second, an undercover bodyguard and third a fake turned real romance. Bodyguards and fake romances, I am all over this book. It was such a fun read. However; with as many fun and sexy elements as this book had, the actual plotline of the story was also pretty creepy. The suspense part of the story certainly kept me on the edge of my seat and more than a little creeped out. Tara Wyatt hit the atmospheric writing out of the ball park. This is the first book I have has the pleasure of reading by her and I was super impressed. The suspense and the romance were on pretty equal footing, which is tough to do. And even tougher to do so well.

Bottom line: If you like romantic suspense read, the Bodyguard series is going to be a great one for you. whether you start with Chain Reaction, or start with book 1, you can't go wrong. I fyou like your romances to be on equal footing with the suspense plotline, you will love Tara's writing. Plus, who can say no to a hot bodyguard?

NA Review
My Thoughts
Beauty of the Beast is the first book in the new adult Fairy Tale retellings series by Rachel Demeter. I loved Beauty of the Beast. Totally and completely loved this book. I have been really into retellings lately, and this is a great one. The blurb claims it is "Perfect for fans of Beauty and the Beast and The Phantom of the Opera" and I can totally see that! This is a dark and gothic retelling, so it is not going to be light and fluffy, but it is so heartbreakingly romantic. I just loved seeing Isabelle and Adam.

Isabelle is taking care of her sick father and Adam is a Prince and also the sole survivor of a raid on his castle when he was younger. He now lives in seculsion and when Isabelle and her father happen upon his castle she trades herself to save her father and that is really where our story starts. This story made me super emotional. Both happy and sad emotions. There are two events that took place that really gutted me.
When Isabelle's father dies at the start of the story! At the start! and when the dog stranger was shot. I'm sorry, but there is never any reason to kill a dog! It is a testament to how much I loved the rest of the story if I still gave it five stars when a dog died. That is normally the kiss of death for me. #isthatweird
But still, I loved the writing and the characters and the rest of the story so much that I still gave this book five stars! Which is really big for me if you know what one of the things was. That is normally a huge no-no for me in books/tv shows/movies. But Beauty of the Beast was good enough that I made an exception in this case.

I'm not sure who was more wounded and who I felt for more in the story. Adam and Isabelle really are kindred souls. Adam with his obvious hardship and past and Isabelle with her awful fiance and dealing with family issues. Watching them come together and form a slow friendship and even slower romance was so sweet and satisfying.

I really loved the slow burn romance in Beauty of the Beast. If you like retellings that take the bones of the tale and tell a really strong story with the basic plot, you will love Beauty of the Beast. Rachel doesn't do anything too radical with the storyline and it feels pretty true to the original but she does do a really cool mash up beauty and the beast and the phantom of the opera. The end result is a great slow burn romance with a tortured hero and a really likable heroine. I devoured this story in one sitting! This is a fantastic retelling. I can't wait to read more from Rachel. This is a book you do not want to miss, and it is one sale right now for preorders!

Off the Ice is the first book in the young adult Junier Falls series by Julie Cross. I have read a bunch of Julie's books, and I love how diverse of an author she is. She can write all genres and moods of stories. I really enjoyed Off the Ice and I can't wait to continue on in the series. It was a bit more drama filled than I was expecting. This is not a super light and fluffy young adult contemporary. This story has some grit to it.

Off The Ice is the story of Claire and Tate. I liked both Claire and Tate but it took me some time to warm up to them. I didn't instantly fall in love with them. In fact, the whole story takes some time to warm up. Off the Ice has a slower, more deliberate pace than some of Julie's other stories. I could even see this story appealing to both young adult and new adult fans. It is upper young adult in my opinion, and the characters bridge the gap between high school and starting college age. Claire and Tate each have their own issues and demons they are dealing with, and it takes them awhile to really get to know each other in a meaningful way. I liked that we were on their meandering journey right along with them. And when they did start to open up to one another, it was great!

Off the Ice was a good read. One I really enjoyed, and I the world of Juniper Falls is one I will enjoy traveling back to. I love Hockey romances, but a lot of this story does take place off the ice. (get it?) There are a lot of other issues falling on Tate and Claire's shoulders, so there is a lot explored within these pages. At times, it felt like the story was trying to do too much and touch on too many things at once. It was a bit overwhelming at some points, but overall it was a very good read. Off the Ice is going to be great for fans of sports romances that like a healthy dose of drama and real world issues thrown in.

How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days is the first book in the adult paranormal romance series, called the Embraced, by Kerrelyn Sparks. This is the first time I have read a book by Kerrelyn Sparks, and I have to say I really, really enjoyed it! Actually it was a bit of a surprise for me, because How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days started out pretty rocky for me. I wasn't feeling the characters and the premise seemed strange, but all of that changed once the main character, Luciana left the island and got to her father's land. From there, I was totally swept up in the story. More and more with each flip of the page. I fell in love with Luciana and Leo, and I really loved their story.

Ana and Leo are not allowed to touch each other. Leo is known as the beast because he can harness the power of lightning and kills with a single touch. I thought his ability was super unique. In this world, anyone that has a special ability is called embraced, and most of the time they are shunned because of it. Ana and Leo are both Embraced. Ana can speak to the dead. I loved getting to watch her "spies" in action. I thought it was super cute when she would tell Leo her spies were better than his. I liked that there is a great variety of abilities in the world that Kerrelyn Sparks has created. I didn't see anyone was a similar ability other than Ana and her sister. (and they are twins, so that is understandable) I really enjoyed getting to know the various characters and the world and I really loved Ana and Leo's romance.

I can't wait to see where this series is going to be going. There is a whole cast of secondary characters, so plenty of people to fill the pages of the next embraced novel. I had a very fond spot in my heart for Brody, and I can't wait to see his story. I will scratch his ears and give him a good belly rub any time! He is just too cute. Not to mention Ana's sister's from the island. They would make for interesting stories as well. I am interesting in learning more about why the King is the way he is. And I can't wait to delve into the politics of the warring nations a little more. I hope we get to see some more of that in the next book. Overall, this book surprised me with how much I ended up loving it. It was great!

Remembrance is the first book in the new adult paranormal romance Heart Lines series by Heather Hildenbrand. The Heart Lines series is a spin-off of Heather's Dirty Blood series and while it’s more fun to come in already knowing a bit about these characters, you do NOT have to read Dirty Blood first. You can just jump in here! I loved heather's Dirty Blood series. It is hands down my very favorite werewolves series. I think it is the best one out there! So when I heard she was going to come out with a new spin off, I was excited. And then I heard that the series was going to be about my very favorite character from the Dirty Blood series...Alex! I heart the heck out of Alex. I actually shipped him really hard throughout the Dirty Blood series.

Remembrance is Alex and Sam's story, or the start to it, and I loved every single second of it. Seriously, I could not turn the pages fast enough. Even though you can read this series as a standalone, I think I would recommend reading the Dirty Blood series first, because the books are all set in the same world, and there is character overlap. Plus, the Dirty Blood series is excellent and you get to see more of Alex! Which is always a plus in my book. (and you do get to see Tara and Wes in Remembrance, which was a lot of fun.)

Sam can't remember what happened in her past to make her the way she is today. And Alex needs her to remember. I don't want to spoil anything from the plot, but Sam and Alex are both trying to solve something and they need to help each other in order to get what they want. Sam wants to remember and Alex wants a cure. Seeing the two of their paths cross was really interesting and I know it is going to be the start of a great journey. I loved that this book was firmly within the new adult age range. Towards the end of the Dirty Blood series, I could tell we were heading in that direction, and I liked that this series started out as new adult. And after reading Remembrance, I love Alex even more than I did before. He is just so excellent.

And because I love Alex so much, I was really hoping for someone worthy of him. Samantha had some big boots to fill in my opinion. But I am so happy to report that I loved her! And I loved the interaction between the two of them. Even if they didn't always know what to make of one another. I need more ASAP! Especially after Heather killed me with her cliffhanger. But fear not, she is releasing books 2 and 3 very rapidly so you can pretty much binge on this series. Book 2 is coming out this month and book 3 is coming out in April. Heather Hildenbrand has another hit on her hands with the Heart Lines series. Remembrance is a favorite of mine! I loved this book so much and I can't wait to see more Alex! Fans of the Dirty Blood series must read the Heart Lines series. And if you are new to this world, you must read both series!

The Family Man is an adult contemporary romance by author Kelly Eadon. Normally, this is not a book that I would pick up on my own. I am not typically drawn to books featuring a single parent, but because I have read, and really enjoyed, one of Kelly's books in the past, I decided to give this book a try. I loved Kelly's easy way with romance and building a connection between characters. Her last book, The Wedding Date, was a feel good read for me, and I wanted to see if The Family Man would be the same. And it was.

The Family Man takes place in the same town, with the same characters, and some new ones thrown in for fun. I like this set up because you can still read each of the books independently, but if you do read them in order you are privy to some extra insights into the various characters and you get to watch them interact in the background throughout the books. It it one of my favorite setups for contemporary romances.

The Family Man is the story of Beth and Griffin. Griffin is a single dad, and even though his daughter takes up so much of his time, he can't seem to stay away from Beth. I loved watching Beth and Griffin interact. The way their relationship blossomed and developed just made me happy. It is as simple as that. Yes, there were some dramatic moments between the two, and there was a little pinch of the same drama that made me wonder what they were thinking, but overall it was lots of laughing and fun with sexy sweetness. Kelly Eadon is quickly becoming a go-to feel good read author. I know that her books will put a smile on my face.

Firestorm is an adult paranormal romance by Donna Grant. It is the tenth book in the dark kings series. I have not read any of the previous books in the series, but they can each be read as standalones. I do have to say, I feel like this series would be better read in order. Yes, this book can work as a standalone, but I feel like I would have a much better idea of the world if I had read the previous books. That being said, I did really enjoy Firestorm. I found it to be sexy and a great read.

Firestorm starts out with our main character, an archeologist, discovering a dragon skeleton. Right away I was hooked into the story. I loved Faith and I really, really loved Dimitri. I admired how determined Faith was, and I really enjoyed the back and forth between her and Dimitri. Dimitri is super interesting himself. I loved seeing his inner struggle with the human v. dragon side and the way that influenced his interactions with faith. Plus, the romance was awesome. The perfect mix of intense and sweet.

Bottom line: If you are a fan of adult paranormal romance, I would reccomend the Dark King series. However; I would not start with Firestorm. Donna Grant is a master storyteller I while I think you can safely pick up and start with any book, you may be confused from time to time on world elements. I think you would do best to read this series in order. I wish I had. Either way, I really enjoyed Firestorm and I can't wait to go back and read the Dark Kings series from the start. Fans of long series will love this one.
