The Hook Up by Kristen Callihan was such a pleasant surprise for me. I got this book sent to me for review consideration, without anyone submitting a review request. Normally, I don't do too many of those (except from major publishing houses). I like to vet all of my review books to try and be as sure as possible that I will enjoy the book. They normally go to the bottom of my TBR and end up getting buried. But this one caught my eye, and I put it in my normal review rotation. And boy am I glad did. The Hook Up was a great new adult contemporary romance. While the outcome was predictable, the road that this guy and gal took to get together was anything but. There were tons of bumps and roadblocks thrown at them, and not all of them predictable in the least. I found myself reading on just to see what was going to happen with them next.
Drew is the quarter back for a major football university in the south. So right off the bat, I could relate to the college campus and atmosphere that surrounded the game and the players. And I love me some college football, so that was a big plus as well. Anna is a smart and former high school outcast that wants nothing to do with the limelight. But it was clear from their very first meeting that there was a draw between the two of them. The Hook Up is told in classic New Adult Contemporary style- dual narrative between Drew and Anna. It was perfect because it let each person be the star of their version of the story.
I loved that Drew was the one that thought it was more love at first sight and Anna was the one that was stubborn beyond all reason. I got her hesitation, but holy cow was this girl stubborn. And drew kept trying and trying and Anna would take one baby step forward and multiple baby steps back. But she is such a sweet girl and through it all you could see the two of them really connecting. Anna and Drew were great characters. Just the kind I like to see in my romances. And Drew just made me want to eat him up!
The cool part about The Hook Up was that it didn't follow the "typical" contemporary story arch. You know the one: Guy and Girl meet, they dance around each other for the first 30-50% of the book and then they either get together or make a big move, then things are going great until about 70-80%, someone messes up big time and things are off. And then they get nicely wrapped up by about 95%. Don't get me wrong- with the right characters and the right plot line it is a formula that works well for me A LOT of the time. But it is nice to see Kristen Callihan mix it up with The Hook Up. After the characters get together you are thinking you are in for some smooth sailing until that one last bump comes along in the road. But no, that is not the case. You are up, you are down, happy, sad, frustrated, dragged left and right without warning. This book will keep you guessing and wondering just what the heck is going to happen next. I loved that about The Hook Up! If you like New Adult Contemporary romance and you like college football. Heck, just if you like books that are not cookie cutter, but still have all the satisfaction of a great romance and the happily ever after you crave- check out the hook up! I can't wait to read the next book in this series, and check out more from this author. It was a great find for me.

I'm not even going to kid you...this is going to be a gushing review. But I think it is warranted. Hear me out. I have now read all three of the books in the Finding Fate series, and they have all been AMAZING! This is what New Adult should be and I am not afraid to share my love for Chelsea Fine's characters and writing. There is something so comforting in reading book after book by an author and loving each one. I can confidently say that I anticipate loving every single book by Ms. Fine.
Her characters are always well developed individuals and she doesn't use a cookie cutter for them all. They all have distinct personalities, but they are all equally relate able and lovable. Right Kind of Wrong is the story of Pixie's (from book 1) college roommate and best friend, Jenna. And her ex co-worker Jack. They hooked up one night almost a year ago and things haven't been the same with them since. Jack clearly has feelings for Jenna and Jenna even knows it but she is beyond scared to try and fit Jack into her "life plan". I love Jenna, but the more I heard about her "plan" the more I wanted to punch her. I mean, Jack was so wonderful and she was just being so stubborn. But he never gave up on her, and I love him even more for that.
I love how Chelsea Fine finds a way to work in the characters from the previous books. This book took place in an overlapping time period with the second book, and just after the events of the first book. I loved that because we got to sneak in and see Kayla and Darren again in the midst of their story. It was awesome for people that have read the whole series. It should be noted that Right Kind of Wrong can be read as a standalone, but I would urge everyone to read all of the books. They are so flippin' awesome.
Right Kind of wrong felt a little darker and more dangerous than the first two books because of the things going on with Jack's family. I just wanted to grab him and hug him and not let go so many times throughout the story. I admire him so much. And I admired Jenna for how she dealt with the whole thing. I mean, that had to be a lot to take in very quickly, but she was a champ. A very stubborn champ, but a champ nonetheless. The Finding Fate Series by Chelsea Fine is pure magic...in a contemporary romance way. Everyone needs to experience Chelsea's beautiful brand of love. I dare you not to fall in love with her characters. I dare you.

Man, I can't believe just a few weeks ago I was in a reading slump. I have been loving the books I have picked up since SO FREAKIN' MUCH! Summers Temptation kept me up until 2:30 am on a work night because I couldn't stop reading. I have found my new book boyfriend, fell in love with the characters and the romance was just what I was looking for, and I didn't even know before I started reading. This is a great new adult contemporary. A great one!
Cassie is still reeling from her last heartbreak, and she has sworn off guys. Oh honey, I have heard that one before. But I give her props, she really stuck to it better than I thought she would be able to. She was able to convince herself that what she was doing was really no strings attached. But as much as I loved Cassie, I loved Tyler more. He was such an interesting conundrum. On one hand, he really did seem like such cold player, but then you get these little glimpses of the cracks in his facade. I lived for those moments. When we got to see the real Tyler. And each time, I liked him a little more.
I don't want to give too much away because this book is so fantastic as a complete story. There are ups and downs. Moments when I was smiling so big and cheering them on, and moments when I was close to tears. Lots and lots of feels in this one. I loved the characters quirks and by the end of the book, I was left with this overwhelming feeling of wanting to go back and read it again. I wish I had this one in a physical book so I could flag a bunch of pages and passages to go back and revisit again. I think this book stands alone, but there are still some things that I want answers on. Like the sick girl from the pictures Tyler has. I want to know more about her. I am super excited that there is going to be another book and it looks like it is still going to be about Cassie and Tyler! I can't wait. I love Tyler so much, that I want 6 more books about him!
Summers Temptation is such a tempting romance. Readers of New Adult will love this one! It is a winner! One of my favorites of 2014.

Crossing the Ice is the first in a new ice skating series by Jennifer Comeaux. It is a spin off series from her Edge series. The ice skaters from the Edge series are the coaches in the Ice series, so they make plenty of appearances. I never read the Edge series, but I so completely loved Crossing the Ice that I am excited to see what the Edge series is about. Figure Skating is my favorite sport in the winter Olympics, so I was really excited to see how Jennifer was going to be able to bring the sport to life through her book. And boy did she ever bring it life.
The routines in the series were particularly exciting for me to read, because I felt like I was actually watching the pairs figure skating on tv. It was pretty incredible how vividly Jennifer Comeaux was able to paint the scenes and how fluid and realistic they felt. Another favorite of the book for me was the main characters and their super sweet romance. It was so nice to see a quiet, nice shy guy get to be the swoon worthy star. And how swoon worthy he really was! I loved Josh. He is beyond thoughtful and ridiculously talented. I loved watching him play the piano and share with Courtney his ear for music. He really is crazy talented.
The romance was not rushed at all. Courtney and Josh baby stepped around each other for the first third of the book, and it was only through their tentative and behind the scenes friendship did they find out just how much they had in common and saw how compatible they were for each other. I really liked both Courtney and Josh, but it was really nice to see the dynamics between the two of them reversed. Don't get me wrong, Josh is all guy, but for once the author was not afraid to make the male character the more sensitive and emotionally fragile one. I mean that in only the best of ways. Josh was not afraid of his feelings for Courtney. And every time he got up the courage to flirt with her even the slightest bit, I swooned a little.
Crossing the Ice is marked as clean New Adult Contemporary romance. It is suitable for young adult readers as well. The plot of Crossing the Ice is not at all predictable. More than once I was surprised at the turn things were taking. Jennifer Comeaux is not afraid to crush your heart into a million little pieces, but luckily she is just as skilled at putting it all back together again. I was so utterly crushed, along with select characters, at something that happened. I felt their pain so clearly and I didn't know how any of us were going to recover. But then Jennifer worked some of her magic and the characters and I were suddenly ok. I loved it. Something that at first seemed so utterly awful, was turned into something that I now think is perfect. Crossing the Ice is a must read for fans of figure skating everywhere. You will fall in love with Josh and Courtney.

I loved Stupid Girl so much. This book made me feel all the feelings. I stayed up until 4 am reading Stupid Girl and I don't regret one second of it. This book will make you smile, it will make you root for Olivia and Brax, it will make you want to hit Brax, it will make you cry. Stupid Girl is one of the best books that I have read in a while. It is told mainly from Olivia's point of views, with just a couple of chapters scattered in there from Brax. I liked this technique because it made it mainly Olivia's story, but I love Brax so much so I was longing from his point of view when his chapters were far and few in between. Mostly because he is just so mysterious, I had to know where he stood.
The story starts a year in the past, with a traumatic event in Olivia's life. Immediately after, we fast forward to present day, when Olivia is about to start college. That one event shapes so much of who Olivia is. When Brax runs into Olivia on the move in day, I was just as skeptical of his as she was. I mean, he certainly tried very, VERY hard to get her first name. But soon after that, it was clear as day to me that he was genuine when it concerned her. I loved everything about him. I loved his nickname for her, I loved their banter, I loved their texts, I loved how protective he was of her. And I loved how he was just as guarded as her. Watching the two of them become more comfortable and real around each other was simply beautiful.
The secondary characters were just as great as the main characters. I loved Olivia's family and roommate. Tessa is very different than Olivia, but even though at first glance they are complete opposites, Tessa is so genuine and nice with Olivia. I admired her so much as a roommate. She is just a cool girl. And Olivia's family is freakin' awesome. Her brothers and grandpa Jilly are just great.
Cindy Miles wrote such a compelling story. There was delicious conflict, the most complex and developed romantic connection. I don't think anyone will see Olivia and Brax and not feel and completely believe their feelings for each other. It was like getting a glimpse into an epic love story. What starts out as a fairly standard plot of a 90s romantic comedy movie, turned into oh so much more. I can't even tell you how much I loved Brax and Olivia. This is a book that I know I will revisit in the future. Heck a book that can have me smiling, laughing, swooning, and bawling like a baby this much is a hit with me. Stupid Girl just resonated with me. I can't say enough good things about Stupid Girl. I will recommend this book to everyone. Read it. Now!

I freakin' love this series. I loved the first book, Best Kind of Broken, and I think I loved Perfect Kind of Trouble even more. Perfect Kind of Trouble is the story of Darren (from book 1) and Kayla. I really like that this series takes places in the same small town, so you get to see a lot of the same secondary characters milling around. Chelsea Fine is so talented. She had me laughing, she had me tearing up, and then she had me laughing again.
This is a story of seeing past initial impressions of people. Both Kayla and Darren have plenty of thoughts on who the other person is. People talk in small towns, so their are plenty of rumors running around about both of them. Kayla comes home for her fathers funeral. A father who she has been estranged from for years. Darren was much closer to her father than she was. Hilarity, antics and plenty of UNST ensues when they find out that Old man Turner left a scavenger hunt for Kayla and Darren to find their inheritance. One catch- they have to do the scavenger hunt handcuffed together. Doesn't it just sound like the perfect set up for a hilarious and sexy book? Perfect Kind of Trouble is hilarious, sexy, and so much more.
For the sake of this review, let's just pretend that I'm not a wills and trusts attorney. It may not be the exact way that a will works, because this is a unique situation, but who cares? It is pure fun! And it didn't bug me one bit, because I felt like it was perfect for the story.
Chelsea can write characters like none other. I love her bickering love dynamic. It was pure pleasure watching Darren and Kayla go from severe dislike to something more to love. I loved watching them dig past their expectations and assumptions of the other person. This book will make you feel all sorts of things. It is at turns laugh out loud funny, and at times heartbreakingly sad. The Finding Fate series is MUST READ NEW ADULT. One of my favorite books of the year.

When I first started Perfect Opposite I was bored for the first chapter or two. It didn't sound like the kind of book I thought it would be from the summary and I just wasn't sure it was something I was in the mood for. I even almost put it aside and started reading something else. Thinking that I would come back to this one when I was more in the mood. But I told myself to read a couple of more chapters and see where it took me. Well, flash forward to hours later at 2 am, and I had finished the whole book in one night. I couldn't put it down, and looking back I can't believe that I also put this book aside. Perfect Opposite is an exhilarating read! It is the the furthest thing from boring. I loved it.
Sasha is the daughter of a very powerful Russian weapons dealer. Alex is assigned to be her personal bodyguard. Sasha is aware of what her dad does and she wants to distance herself from him and just try and live a normal life. I don't blame her for this, considering that in her old life with her father, she was the one that found her mothers body hacked to pieces. She has been very well provided for, but make no mistake. This girl has had it rough.
Alex is the very picture of brooding. When we first meet him, he hardly says any words at all. He just silently follows Sasha around. I couldn't figure him out for the longest time. He is so closed off that it is really hard to get to know him. I appreciated that Sasha and him acted realistically in their situation. She was not happy to have a body guard and because of that they fought all the way up until the end. There was no insta love in this book. No it was slow and gradual and it snuck up on both of them. I loved that. Zoya Tessi does an excellent job with subtle but steady progression in her romance and plot.
I could not figure out what was going to happen in Perfect Opposite. I was blind sided by the plot more than once, which I have to say is pretty rare for me. And Alex completely grew on me. Just like Sasha, I went from confused about him to not even realizing I loved him. Perfect Opposite is an action packed. I mean real fighting, edge of your seat action, along with a romance that completely rocked. I loved Alex and Sasha and I think you will too.

You know when you just want to hug a book when you are done with it? Rumor Has It is that kind of book. I just want to hug it and snuggle with it in bed for a while. This book just made me happy. Elizabeth Grace blew me away. It goes up there as one of the New Adult MUST READS. It is set up in what I am calling the classic new adult contemporary romance narration style. The books in the series can each be read as stand-alones, but the characters pop up in each of the books so you can check in on them. The book itself is told in dual narrative, with each chapter alternating between Ellie and Mason's point of view. This is my favorite narrative style. I just love to peak around in guys heads during romance books.
Ellie and Mason do not disappoint. They are funny, sexy, caring, and best of all multi-faceted. I loved the depth that Elisabeth Grace woven into her writing and characters. Ellie is just adorable, and Mason has a tough exterior with an ooey gooey marshmallow center. Another favorite of mine. They are both so good, inside and out, but neither of them is perfect. Ellie is a stubborn little thing and Mason had a tendency to jump to conclusions and has trust issues. It was these imperfections that made you go from like to love with them. And they are just magic together.
Mason makes my list of book boyfriends. I just love how focused he was to Ellie. He would do anything for her. And it is so easy to see that he really is such a caring and giving soul. Yes, he has a cocky exterior, but after their initial meeting, it almost never came out to play again. Mason just seemed to real with Ellie.
Rumor Has It is a damn near perfect book, in my opinion. It has fantastic swoon-worthy characters that still manage to be extremely realistic. The writing is conversational and really makes you feel like the characters thoughts are your thoughts. I felt like I was inside the characters heads. It was fantastic. And the plot. Oh, the plot will make you not want to put the book down. At one point towards the end, I almost screamed out loud because of something that happened. This book has me completely invested in it. I can see myself revisiting Ellie and Mason time and time again. I can't wait to read the next Limelight novel. If it is half as good as Rumor Has It, it will be great. If you like new adult, if you like romance, if you like contemporary or if you have never tried new adult, you need to read Rumor Has It. Just read the book- you will be thanking me later.

Valerie Chase has done it again! I can't get over how much I loved this book. If you like contemporary romances, you NEED to read Valerie Chase's Sea Swept series. It is one of my favorites and perfect for summer. I liked Yas from the first books, but we didn't get to know her too much. I thought she was a good friend, but I didn't get too much of an idea of who she was as a person. We really get to know her so well in With Every Breath. Get ready to fall in love with her. Each book in the Sea Swept Series can be read as a standalone, but I loved both of them so I would recommend reading books 1 & 2.
Yas lost her older sister to cancer, and she is still really shaken up about it. She deferred a psychology grad school to become a photographer on the cruise ship she cruised on with her sorority sisters in the first book. It is very different being on the ship as staff though, she is about to find that out. Her sister was an artist and she loved taking pictures. Yas is determined to live out some of her sisters photography dreams and complete a project in her honor. I thought it was super sweet. Of course, she isn't looking for love though.
Enter West, her photography team leader. I cannot get enough of Yas and West's dynamic. They are so fiery together. Sometimes they brought out the best in each other, and sometimes the worst. But they are fantastic to read about together. I want to see the two of them in a romantic comedy or the whole sea swept series as a tv show. I think these books are perfect for that. I cannot put Valerie's books down. I stayed up until 2 am on a work night because I just had to keep reading. There is smokin' hot romance, tons of light fun, but there is also a depth to the characters and their development that leaves a lasting connection. We go much further than the superficial layer that both Yas and West present for themselves. I loved getting to know each of them better and better as the book progressed.
I loved the behind the scenes peak at how the crew and staff on cruise ships live and work. Having recently been on a cruise, the scenes came to life before my eyes and I have to say Valerie did an excellent job with every description. They felt exactly like a cruise ship. I was transported back onto one. She is an excellent writer, and is quickly becoming one of my favorites. I need her next book NOW!

Wow, I need to get my hands on the Addicted Series right now. While I don't think anyone can top Conner and Rose for me, I also grew to love Lily and Lo in this book. Ryke too! So I can't wait to read all of their stories. Conner and Rose are IT for me though. I just can't get enough of them. I don't even know where to start with everything that I loved about them and this book. I loved Rose and Conner individually, and their dynamic together. I am crazy about the writing, and the plot. All of it is just so smart and witty. Let me put it this way- not only is Kiss the Sky going on my favorites list of 2014. It is one of my favorite books OF. ALL. TIME.
Rose is the oldest Calloway sister and I just lurve her. She is such a strong and smart woman. She will not hesitate to kick a guy in the balls if he annoys her both figuratively and literally. I love how strong and determined she is, but for me her most interesting aspect was in her fragilities. The things that she was scared of; the things that she worked so hard to conceal about herself. Everyone labeled her as the "witch" in the group, but to me she was anything but that. I loved all of her inconsistencies. And the only thing I loved more than Rose was Conner. Conner and Rose really get each other. Better than any one else on the planet. The book is told through both of their point of views, and to see how spot on they were with how the other was acting or feeling was a bit scary at times. It was incredible really.
Conner is the perfect guy for me, scratch that- I completely meant Rose. He is the perfect guy for Rose. I loved how protective he was of her, and how much he respected her. I thought they were hilarious and wonderful together. I loved all of their text games, and I loved how they challenged each other. Conner just demands respect and attention, and that is completely hot of him. I couldn't get enough Conner. Everything about him just works for me. I want him all to myself all the time. I would be happy to fight with him and make up with him. Anything he wants. He is exactly the kind of Alpha that I like.
I am a bit of a reality show junkie, so I enjoyed that the setting of Kiss the Sky was during the filming of a reality show. I thought it was pretty cool how we got to see some of the editing of the show by production. I wish Rose would have kicked Scott a few times, maybe maimed up his face a bit. I hate him so much, and I was so beyond happy to see how strong Rose and Conner remained as a couple throughout the book, no matter what Scott did. Even though Rose and Conner stole the show for me, I can't wait to read the Addicted series and Lily and Lo's story. Kiss the Sky can be read as a complete standalone but technically, Lily and Lo's story in the addicted series happened first. I am going to read every single one of the other books because Krista and Becca Richie have so thoroughly impressed me with their writing, their characters and their sheer talent for telling a story. They have made me instant mega fans of theirs. I must read everything they have written. If you have not read Kiss the Sky yet, YOU NEED TO. Right away. Heck, I think you should put down whatever book you are reading at the moment and pick up Kiss the Sky. You will thank me for it. And then come find me and we can gush about Conner.
