This is one of the first Reese Witherspoon book club picks that I haven’t rated highly. The hype had me all excited and when I saw this copy sitting on the library shelf I felt like it was meant to be.⁣

I sat and read this while I was in the hair dressers (yes I was in there for over four hours!!) I predicted the twist very early on and then for me the book seemed to drag. I think had it not been so predictable then I would have enjoyed it as the writing is good, Constantine easily manipulates the reader into disliking the main character, setting them up to wish for her to get what she deserves.

This is story has so many levels and, in some ways, reminded me of a grown up version of Eleanor and Park. It is very well written keeps you wanting to turn the page.

The reconnecting through songs was a great idea (scroll across to see a list of songs mentioned in the book). If you know the majority then you will love this book. I think had I known the songs more then this would have gotten a higher rating from as I think songs can really take you back to a time and place and evoke feeling. It is one I would buy to give to friends and family.

To begin with it did make me feel a little uncomfortable that this couple were reconnecting even thought they were both in relationships but as the story developed that seemed to fade away and I was left really routing for them to be together.

I picked this book up on January the 1st and flew through it. The story is of a group of girls who, at a certain age, have to survive a year to get rid of their ‘magic’.⁣

It made me laugh in that sad understanding way,

“As far as I can tell, we all have hearts. We all have brains. There are only a few differences I can see, and most men seem to think with that part anyway.”

I felt like it was a combination of ‘The Lord of the Flies’ and ‘The Hunger Games’ but was a completely new story and it really hit home on some points,⁣

“We hurt each other because it’s the only way we’re permitted to show our anger. ⁣
When our choices are taken from us, the fire builds within. ⁣
Sometimes I feel like we might burn down the world to cindery bits, with our love, our rage, and everything in between.” ⁣

This is a great young adult read which kept me turning the page and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was made into a series! ⁣

This was a really fast paced book despite being 490 pages! I felt like the time flew by and I was eager to know what was happening. I enjoyed it so much that I read the whole thing in one day.

It had me guessing right till the end. The short, sharp chapters meant that as soon as I formed one idea it was turned on its head.

I thought the use of a potential medical issue as a way of explanation was a great idea and really had you questioning if it was all in Kate's head.

There were also some side stories which added to the build up but that you could work out which I liked as it meant that I didn't feel completely daft for not working out the ending!

The only thing I would have liked to have seen was more of introduction to the characters start, Kate's job as a super recogniser sounded really interesting and the relationship with the police for and her former partner left me wanting to know more.

I really enjoyed everything about this book, it reminded me why I love RomComs.

Was it all 100% believable? No. Did I love it anyway? Yes!

This was a great book to start the year on, it was full of laughs and really removes the tension from a couple with children splitting up. I think there still, even now, is a lot of stigma around being a divorced single mum and I love that this tackled it head on and shows readers that sometimes its actually the start of a better life and not a terrible life ending drama!

I really liked the character of Annie Beaton and would love to see what else she gets up to in the future. I also enjoyed the writing style as the author has the character speaking directly to you, it made it engaging and fun.

Thanks to Sarah/ Book On The Bright Side Publicity, Hera Books and Net Galley for the ARC in exchanges for an honest review.

This book followed the life of a divorced couple when the husband, a world famous musician, gets ALS and his ex wife agrees to look after him.

The book was a very difficult read, which is to be expected with the subject matter but I just found I didn't like either of the main characters so couldn't not connect to the book. I also found that the story really dragged.

However I did think that the book really highlight the struggles on a family when someone is diagnosed with this condition and made me much more aware of what happens and how quickly it progresses.

I am sure that for some people this will have been a 5* read and it did educate me about the medical condition but as a story it just did not hit the mark for me.
