This story pulled on my heart strings sooo much! I absolutely adored it. I loved the characters and the family relationship- it was real, raw and just so heart felt. A debut novel like this one deserves all the praise. I can’t say anything wrong about this story because it’s truly something everyone needs to read. You have ghost, cemeteries, culture, love, friendship, family and SO MUCH more. It’s everything you never thought you needed. Highly recommend and will be buying every book Aiden Thomas releases.


So many times I wanted to teleport myself into this story to give Yadriel a huge hug. All the love and all the stars in the sky for this one.

Talia Hibbert is definitely a favorite author of mine. This book was five stars from the very first chapter. Ugh. I needed this book. Needed it SO bad.

I was always hesitant about reading this because ‘Matilda’ is the reason I fell in love with reading. Idk why I was so anxious to pick this up but then I turn to this chapter and remember now, Robin Williams.

Robin Williams was a warm fuzzy blanket and a fresh cup of coffee to me & he’ll always feel that way for me. Just as the feeling of watching Matilda over & over again. These two people helped me in so many ways and I’m forever grateful to have them as my reason for my love of imagination, laughter, courage & reading.


This book will always stay close to my heart because Mara is so much more than “the girl who played Matilda” & knowing her story is something I’ve been needing more than I thought.

Have you ever just finished a book and instantly thought how much you appreciated it? That’s how I feel for this one. I appreciated it so much.

This book is something I’ve never read before and to explain it would only me giving you every single detail because it’s that interesting. You need to go in this with no expectations. The only thing i had a problem with was getting names mixed up & confused on who was who and who was related to who but that was mostly just my brain not understand, not the writing style.

I highly recommend this. It’s different. It’s unique. It’s encouraging and it will make you want to visit your nearest local café to have a few sips of your own fresh cup of coffee.

I’ll always remember this book & keep it close to my heart. Can’t wait to pick up the next one very soon.

I know I’m late in reading this series for the first time but OMG I’m at a loss for how this book made me feel and the scary part is, is that I’ve heard the second one is more of a soul crusher.

I thank all the booktubers and bookstagrammers out there who brought this book to my attention because now idk how i ever lived without it! This book blew me away. The story was so captivating, the characters were so powerful and so compelling that I either had so much hate for them or so much love for them. The way this story takes you to a place of rage, courage and honor all at the same time made it so hard to put down. I will immediately be picking up A Torch Against the Night and can only imagine how I will feel after that. really glad i picked this up. It was very knowledgeable to me considering i have been in therapy with 3 different therapists and have yet to find one i can connect with fully. This gave me the hope that someone is out there who can understand my feelings and listen without judgement. This is a book I’d consider picking up again and recommending to everyone.

I’m giving a 100 page book five stars without thinking twice about it.

Holy smokes this was good. I literally highlighted every word. How can such a short story tear my heart open so much as this has? AND completely give me butterflies at the same time? Amazing. TJR is a force to be reckoned with. Read this. Please.

I like the dual perspective’s but only when I can feel connected to at least ONE of the characters. This just felt too boring to me. I’m sad this was the first CL book I’ve read but I will still pick up their other books as I’ve heard better things.

I liked the idea of this story but it just wasn’t for me. I think if i didn’t read this via audiobook- I probably wouldn’t have gotten through it all.
