Jessica Lyle is abducted when she’s driving home with her 6-month old baby. Except she wasn’t driving her car and all the evidence points to a case of mistaken identity. That the abductors were actually after her flat mate, Snezia, the owner of the car and the mistress of a career criminal.
Max Wolfe is running the investigation and he’s determined to get Jessica home safely to her family.
The pace of the book was well balanced throughout and kept me on my toes. The characters all had secrets they wanted to hide and obstructed the investigation by not divulging them sooner. There were a few twists and turns that I hadn’t anticipated and it was nice not to have been able to guess them ahead of reveal.
All-in-all it was a really enjoyable read, I just felt that it lacked a build up of suspense in certain moments and wasn’t particularly gripping which is something I usually experience in the genre. However, the overall story made up for this.
Thank you Cornerstone and NetGalley for the pleasure of reading this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

So positives: the characters were interesting. My favourite was Clete and the other kids from the home. They just seemed the most interesting.
This started off with all the foundations of a great book. I found Hawk relatively likeable, through all her struggles she remained strong and despite everything, she had a good heart.
However, midway through she lost that and we went through a lot of teenage angst and self doubt and just negativity. I get it, we’ve all been there but it just seemed so off-character from what we’d already experienced.
Oh and then suddenly, she flipped back.
Likewise, I found the story slow and it wasn’t gripping like I’d hoped. The action didn’t start until midway through and then the ending was super abrupt. It left so many open questions.
I had really high hopes for this one but was left feeling quite disappointed.

I absolutely loved this book! The start I was a bit lost, as there was so much going on but after it settled, I really go into it.
I love the relationship between Mau and Daphne. How found each other through tragedy, were from completely different cultures and yet, found a way to make things work. There journey to discovering how much bigger the world was and how they were just a small part of it, was amazing.
When a book finishes and you have a huge smile on your face because you were so happy with the ending, you know it’s a good book. It was wholesome and hygge, such a sweet book to read.

This book is centred around a group of friends, now adults, who met while at University. Their annual New Years Eve get-together.
The group is fragile, hanging on by a thread and all of them have plenty of skeletons in the closet.
It opens with a murder and the rest of the book flicks between them arriving at the lodge and 3 days later which plays out the discovery of the body and subsequent events. I found the beginning to be quite confusing with how many characters there were, I actually had to make some notes just to keep track but after a while, I got to grips with it.
Unfortunately, I did guess the ending about 30% in so the rest of the book, I was waiting for it to play out and hoped that I would be wrong.
Overall, it wasn’t a bad book, just not for me! I like to be kept guessing right until the end and then be really shocked when everything unravels.

Wow.
So many thoughts and feelings about this one! Definitely my favourite volume so far.
I’m team Noah now. Does that make me fickle? Oh well, I’m okay with that!
This volume felt like ALL action and has left me so excited to see how this is all going to wrap up in volume 4. Do I really have to wait two more weeks?!

This started off and quite frankly, could have been the make or break of the series. However, I came out of it really pleased and it’s definitely my favourite in the series so far.
The first two books were lots of character and world building. I’m so glad we were finally away from that.
For at least half of these book, I was fed up of Jace. His teenage angst. His rashness, selfishness, his belief that it’s easier to hurt people than just have an honest conversation with them. Although, he did begin to grow on me a bit more later on and honestly, I hope it continues in that direction if he plays a part in future books. Which I imagine as such a central character in these first 3, he will.
Clary definitely seemed to have matured a lot as a character in this one and while we did experience some teenage angst on her behalf, it was much less.
I feel like we got to experience so much more of the Shadowhunter world in this book and it was thoroughly enjoyable! I look forward to continuing the series.

“Would you have done anything different, if you had the chance to undo your regrets?”
The Midnight Library is a poignant reminder of how fragile human life can be. A story that makes you question what you wish you’d done differently and think about how your life might have turned out if you had. Would you be happy? Fulfilled? Would things have turned out better?
Nora’s journey was painful but beautiful. A journey that I believe a lot of people will relate to and I certainly did. Matt Haig showed us all of the dark but also, the light that can be experience in one’s life.
Human life is beautiful and something to be cherished. This book just made me appreciate that a whole lot more.
I don’t believe my words will ever be able to do this book any justice. It’s something everyone should experience for themselves.
Thank you so much to Canongate, NetGalley and most importantly, Matt Haig for the pleasure of receiving this e-ARC.

Queenie is about a 26 year old woman, completely stuck in a rut. Nothing is working out for her, her mental health is poor and some of her relationships are toxic and problematic.
The book really delved into mental health and discussed cultural differences on how it is perceived and remedied.
It was really nice to see how Queenie’s support network came together for her when she needed them most. Despite the initial reluctance her grandmother showed at the prospect of Queenie going to therapy.
In particular, I found the way she took charge of her mental well-being really powerful and especially cutting off the people that weren’t helping her.
The first step in overcoming mental health issues is always the most difficult one to take and this book approached it in a really honest way.
It also touched on topics of harassment, gaslighting and abuse. Discussing the impact of these events on her mental health and ability to live her day-to-day life.
