I think everyone has felt the pain of a friendship breakup at some point in their lives, and Woodfolk captures it perfectly. Especially in the eyes of teenagers. From the emotions to the characters, I was definitely impressed with this story.

Oh this book is gorgeous! In the writing, in the story, in the art. I really like how different colors were used depending on what perspective we had. Seriously, a stunning piece of artwork. Why is this not getting more hype?

The emotions and the feeling behind everything was done so well, too. Each of the characters had their own journey, and then a mystical, fairy tale element is added. This book was everything I wanted it to be and more.

Re-read: Sabaa Tahir really knows how to put her readers through the ringer. I don't know how she's going to wrap up this story, but there is sure to be heartbreak in it!

Wow. So many emotions! So much happened in this book that I absolutely need to know what happens next. How will they get out of this? Ahhh! Prime listening for a fantastic story.

This was magical! I'm glad I listened to the audiobook. I think it brought the story even more to life. Great characters and an enchanting story.

I'm giving this 3.5 stars and rounding up to four. Though this is the last novel in a series, it can be read as a standalone. The events covered are important and readers get a first hand look at the Civil Rights Movement through Cassie's eyes. My main issue with it was the length. There were passages that felt too long winded, and the book easily would have worked with fewer pages. But a good addition to YA Historical fiction that's so saturated with WWII stories.

If you thought Dear Martin hit hard, be prepared for this book. Nic Stone doesn't flinch away from the hard stuff in this book, and there are parts that are just hard to read because you know they're based in reality. For me, this is right up there with Punching the Air, but it's not really being talked about as much. Read this book, buy this book, share this book. It is necessary and it is powerful.

I am always amazed by everything Callender writes and this book was no different. This book was lyrical, examining what grief can do to a family and the different ways people cope with it. King is trying to do right by his brother, but doing so also means realizing that maybe his brother wasn't perfect. King is grieving, but also trying to figure out his sexuality.

The emotional journey is so well done in this book. This book will also allow so many kids to be seen. So worthy of the award it won!

Thanks to St. Martin's Press and Net Galley for providing me with an eARC of this book in exchange for a review! While this book is a bit outside of my normal reading range, the story sparked my interest. There are so many important discussions that happen in this book, especially in relation to sexual assault and the way victims are treated and how race can factor into it. Honestly, this would be a great book to read in a book club because there is so much to discuss.

Changing perspectives throughout the book really gives the reader a full picture of the situation. All of the main characters are also well-rounded, not reduced to any single aspect of their character. The plot of the book reads a lot like a thriller, even though much of it takes place in a court room. Even though it seems like a straightforward story, Abdullah keeps the reader guessing right up until the very end. Who's really telling the truth? This is the core question running throughout the book.

Abdullah also exposes the hatred a lot of people feel, especially in high tension cases like this. There are so many layers to the case, and none of them are left out. An emotional read, but one that's difficult to put down just because of how powerful it is. This is definitely a book that will leave you thinking long after you finish it.

What an ending! Sabaa Tahir really knows how to keep her readers on the edge of their seats. This is such a strong conclusion to this series, despite the emotional rollercoaster.

This was such a fun story! A re-imagined version of history that gives a bit more power to women. I'm glad I'm finally starting this series!
