Set in a supernatural, alternative world where ghosts and monsters are real. Ellie's family is known to be able to call up ghosts. Only animal ghosts, though. Human ghosts are too dangerous. When her cousin suddenly dies, it's up to Ellie to find out what happened to him.

I loved this, actually! It's different, but in a spectacularly good way. Plus the main character is asexual (and it's directly mentioned in the book!). Great representation and such a unique magical world. Plus, the book itself is just gorgeous!

Oh I loved this! Just when you think you have everything figured out, it all twists around. Nick is fantastic and I want to protect him and Seth forever. A great cast of characters, filled with extraordinary powers.

This follow up to New Kid is fantastic! Craft not only explores puberty, something every middle schooler can relate to, but also situations particular to Jordan and his friends. Plus, I loved the nods to other popular middle grade books throughout. Craft has done it again!

Well, that's where they decided to end this one?? Ughh. This is why I usually wait to read series until they're all published. No waiting.

But, this series benefits from more books, just because there are so many characters. We get to see more of them here, and it's fantastic. There are budding relationships and fast paced action. You'll be on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

This book is *not* for the faint of heart. Oh my goodness. Even though it's mostly Ashley trying to survive on her own in the woods, it's interspersed with flashbacks and other things that really keep the narrative going. A gripping story from start to finish.

This just really wasn't for me. The format made it difficult for me to get into, which meant the story didn't really feel engaging to me. Some of the subject matter and discussions about horror and horror movie tropes were interesting, but it just missed the mark overall.

After waiting forever for the audiobook (for some reason this is the only one in the series with a million holds??), I'm finally continuing this series! This wasn't my favorite one in the series so far; mostly because the love triangle felt a bit forced. I love Thomas Cresswell and he deserved better than that.

The second book is the strongest for me so far. This one didn't do a whole lot in progressing the characters and felt a bit like a filler for the last book. But still interested in seeing what comes next!

As a fan of Jane Eyre, I thought it was so fun! I loved the ghost spin, and the interactions between characters. I might have loved this one more than the first one, just because of my love of Jane Eyre. This book is creative and pokes fun at the original story. Feminist twists on classic stories are always fun!

I was so happy to get a review copy of this book! As I love pretty much all things superhero, this is 100% up my alley. Plus, it's being marketed as: "The Handmaid's Tale meets the DC Universe." How could I not want to read that?

The world building in this book is phenomenal. Fans of the DC Universe will appreciate the little nods to familiar characters, like Oliver Queen and Barbara Gordon. Readers who aren't necessarily avid readers will still be able to keep up with the story and everything that's going on. We're introduced to this dark society, very similar to The Handmaid's Tale. The spark of resistance starts slowly and builds throughout the book and I felt like the pacing was spot on.

Also, we get Oliver Queen asking for consent before kissing Dinah! We love to see it. The characters themselves are well-rounded, too, adding to the fantastic world-building. Also, getting to see Dinah's growth into her powers flows well with the rest of the story.  Honestly, all of the aspects of this book worked really well together.

If I had to pick just one aspect of improvement for this book, it would be the pace of the romance between Oliver and Dinah. While it was inevitable, it honestly felt like it happened too quickly. Since I'm not necessarily a fan of instant love, I wish it was more drawn out. Other than that, this book is engaging, entertaining, and a great addition to the DC Icons line of books.

First of all, a lot of this book is spoiled in the summary because some of the events don't happen until the second half of the book and ugh. I hate it when that happens. Otherwise, I think the first two books are the strongest in this series.

This book kind of got away from what made the first two books so successful. For me, it was too focused on the relationship between Audrey Rose and Thomas. It took away from the mystery at heart of the book, even though we do come full circle from the first book. I just wanted more of the mystery and less of the relationship moping. It seemed out of character for Audrey Rose, who boasted being such an independent person.

These books shine in their suspense and mystery, which was somewhat lacking in this book. A somewhat disappointing ending for a series that had such potential.
