hi if I know you IRL walk away right now.

....

okay this book has per the author "mutual feeding" and that has a lot to do with

Let me start by saying the male narrator was absolutely a hilarious choice. I do not know how they chose this narrator, but when I say he sounds like a cross between Nathan Lane and Patton Oswalt with a tinge of the Scream voice filter I'm not exaggerating. Sorry to those folks but instead of feeling

An exceptional audiobook experience, the dual narrators did a great job bringing the characters to life, both as their "on-air podcast personalities" and as their actual character. I loved the interspersed podcast bits, and almost wished the true crime story they were telling was something I could listen to!

If you love opposites attract, having to work together with your rival, and snarky banter leading to hot hookups, this is a great choice for you!

CW: talk of murder (for podcast purposes); death of a minor character that brings the two rivals together; discussions of racism in the industry

actual rating 4.5 stars

A contemporary romance like what I've been pining for. Tightly focused on the main couple, full of swoon-worthy moments, excellent banter, and soooo much sexual tension, and no big traumas on page, I loved it.

Dr. Theo Chadwick, a relationship expert with his psychology PhD, is the polar opposite of "I'm here to teach you to love yourself self and perpetual single since being left at the altar" Daria Stone. Both are popular talk radio show hosts, but their indie station is struggling and needs to cut costs - so combines their shows too boost numbers with their rivalry (both on air and in competitions their producers throw them into). But their on air rivalry turns into in-person intimacy as they both find they are drawn together.

But as opportunity knocks, can perpetually single Daria give up her brand to have a happily ever after?

Theo is such a dream boat, and the way these two talked through their fears and worries was super refreshing. Despite the pining and some angst, there was no third-act break up (more of a please trust me I need a couple days) moment.

ALSO SO SO hot. Theo definitely loves to eat, and Daria makes good use of her collection of toys she's been sent to review (and shares :)).

Glad I read this one. From Kindle Unlimited.

Mild spoilers ahead.

I agreed to buddy read Love on the Brain and I made it through more of this one than TLH, in large part because the power dynamic was better balanced (I could not with the Professor/Student relationship and the ridiculous situations the characters were constantly in, nor the sexual harassment plotline).

LOVE ON THE BRAINS is essentially the exact same pairing as TLH otherwise; a HUGELY tall, taciturn grump and a smol, sweet yet anxious and over thinking and do-gooding sunshine who is mostly oblivious until the tall tells her otherwise.

The prose is so choppy and absolutely does not work for me; there's so many repetitive descriptions of his eyes, his HUGE BODY and muscles and riding his thigh. There's one description of his eyes that reads like the terrible poem written for Bev in the book IT by stephen king. His d*ck is TOO BIG too handle. And yes, these are classic romance novel kinks, but in this story with it being otherwise an attempt to portray a hyper realistic contemporary setting, it just did not work for me. I don't want to read jokes about expressing a cat's anal glands okay?

Honestly, as a person who with anxiety, Bee's thoughts and the prose made me feel anxious while reading, which is a bummer.

I skimmed a lot, then there was a part involving a gun and violence which also did not work for me. Sure there's sex scenes but I was just missing emotion and feeling from the one-sided POV.

Essentially, this author's writing doesn't work for me. I'm so glad it works for clearly so many of you. I wish her the best, but I won't be trying any more.

Content notes: two white main characters, two cats who are safe and live, gun with threat of gun violence, gas lighting by a secondary character, gender essentialist jokes about men in STEM being cockitists and other penis jokes assigning penises to men only.

I received a advance review copy from the publisher; thank you

What an intense second chance romance that was almost entirely a grovel after the first few chapters. Love that for me (and all of you). I'm still dabbling in PNR and the dual nature of Una and her wolf coexisting together yet also sometimes being in opposition was really different for me, and felt fresh and unusual. I loved that Una's wolf was so standoffish to Killian (both the man AND his alpha wolf) and Killian's wolf was just a puppy for Una and panting for her wolf. Crawl Killian, crawl.

I don't want to give too much away, but this is a must read if you enjoy second chance, wolf shifters, and interesting world building. There's a lot of sequel bait for a lot of characters, and it was refreshing to see Cate C Wells continuing to portray romance characters that do have to work, and struggle a bit, to survive in the world EVEN IF they are mystical wolf shifters. Everything was a bit gritty and and sensually horny. so very horny.

I was a bit concerned we'd get actual wolf of wolf boning but thankfully it didn't quite go that far; I don't know if I'd like it (maybe??).

Read with #ButDoTheyBang for Take a (Second) Chance on Me in August of 2022.

Content notes - every one is white as far as I could determine. ableism throughout, many other content notes (I suggest looking at Leigh Kramer's Goodreads review for more details).

Exactly the romance I needed to help make me smile. Our Hot Lumberjack starts with an absolutely sexy bang which always makes me :-D and then goes for a mostly vibes and just enough ennui and steam and heart. I love these two navigating WHY they cannot seem to stop arguing and then banging, and how Ilan navigates his past hurt and how Abi comes to realize she's treating him not well despite actually really liking him. I loved how the author didn't actually paint Ilan's hurtful ex as 'evil' but as a person who has done wrong and will atone. PLUS Abi has guinea pigs (three of them) that she rescued from a cranky teacher who wasn't caring for them as they should be. Love it.

Lots of sequel bait (ABI'S SISTER AND SIMON) and I will be rooting for the author to keep publishing more in this world.

**Disclosure - I was asked questions about guinea pigs by the author and was given an advance review copy (I also purchased a copy with my own money). I am thanked in the acknowledgments and am friendly with the author on social media.

a bang-fest from the first chapter through the entire novella, what a gloriously fun sex-a-thon novella featuring two horny folks trying all the sex acts while falling in love. There's no third act break-up, I laughed, it was hot, what more could you want? Loved especially that they played with their kinks (breeding, daddy, pegging) safely and consensually. Grateful that the "I've only had sex with your dick, but I'm not a virgin" concept was explored, as Nina is gloriously bisexual and had explored sex in many other ways (and Seth is so here for it).

Basically imagining this couple as one that would be on Melanie Rose's Sex Room show!

I hope this author writes a zillion more.

Contents included in the book description;

I'm not going to rate IN IT TO WIN IT because if I wasn't reviewing for LJ I would have DNFed.

Reader's Advisory review to come in Library Journal; thank you to the publisher for the advance copy.

SPOILERY content notes
Spoiler the "I don't have the mom gene" and "I don't think I ever want to be a mom" plot switching to surprise baby was not my favorite, especially in 2022. Also a lot of label name dropping of fashion, crummy rich parents upset their daughter chose to work with troubled youth and run a non-profit instead of trying to make it as a fashion designer, a hero parenting his two teen (14yo) siblings since his parents were dead, plus the billionaire is making us do silly tasks to win the right to buy his building for our personal projects, and a lot of physical humor.
