A wonderfully dark novella that introduces a quirky cast of young people who all found a doorway to different realms, but for various reasons were sent back. Some desperate to go back, some desperate for their families to understand that they weren't lost, but found, they find themselves at a boarding school ran by one of their fellow travelers.

When new student Nancy arrives after being cast out of the underworld, a spate of murders rocks the school.

While the actual mystery element is fairly light (being only 150+ pages), the characters and settings are simply marvelous. A great little read. Hopefully more to come!

The Welsh-Nationalist elements to this story elevates this historical romance from the masses. I enjoyed Juliana's spirit, smarts, and determination, but found Rhys to be a bit unbearable. Also, the ending came together way to neatly for such an intense story.

Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC!

I'm not an Archie aficionado by any means, but I'm aware of the cultural zeitgeist. That said, I found this re-vamp enchanting and timely. Fiona Staples knocked it out of the park with the illustrations (see panels detailing Archie's failed attempts at jobs, specifically the ice-cream shop). I mean, really, look at that cover. Archie is a fox!

This is my first time with Mark Waid, and the text is lovely. It has the old Archie feel, the Betty/Veronica drama, and good ol' Jughead, but again makes it feel like this gang was born in this generation.

Great for adults and teens as Waid keeps the spirit of Riverdale.

I'm generally all for unlikable characters, so even though I detested both Josie and Meredith, I read this book through. Alas, part of the fun of unlikable characters is seeing them get some sort of comeuppance, but these two basically get the perfect ending to their respective story lines.

SpoilerSeriously, Josie gets pregnant on the FIRST TRY with her BFF's donation, and the guy she has been leading on decides to give a relationship a go despite her new pregnancy? That is awfully convenient. How about one of those? Also, the big secret revolving around the death of Josie and Meredith's brother was fairly tame, and not worth the drama.

While Emily Giffin's writing is still a pleasure, this story just did not capture me like some of her others.

My very first [ai:Agatha Christie|123715|Agatha Christie|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1321738793p2/123715.jpg], and what a blast! I sort of figured it out, but was still completely surprised by the ending which I love. I believe this is being made into a Lifetime Movie event, so I'll be tuning in for sure!

This book made me so happy. A fantastic, strong, and capable female protagonist. A totally crush-worthy boy, and magic fire horses. Huzzah.

Amani is a sharpshooter who needs to get the heck out of her small town where woman are considered to be chattel. Its either that or become her uncle's next bride, or another man's possession. Before she can cut out completely and after a disastrous attempt at disguising herself as a boy and attempting a shooting contest, Amani meets Jin.

Jin is a foreigner, and out to cause trouble for the town's industry (gun making), but may prove her ticket out of town. He may also have connections with the growing rebellion in the desert, which could lead to an even greater adventure for Amani despite its risks and danger.

Battling magical creatures, sandstorms, bandits, and surprises, this is a wonderful start to a new YA series. Can't wait for more!

Boy and girl meet cute, then girl's new circle of friends introduces her to the Cute Girl Network to warn her off of the cute boy. Will she take their advice and run away, or trust her own instincts and give him a chance?

A fun read, with an adorkable couple. I was a bit dubious at first, but loved that Jane trusted herself. One person's asshole ex is another person's true love. I do wish the panels were in color.

Photographer has a break down after receiving a lurid photo of her dead mother, who she thought had merely abandoned her and her siblings as a child. Returning home to regain her self, she finds herself the target of a similar murderer.

Really rapey, and a bit too dark for me, but I enjoyed the family dynamics and the Maine setting.

So much fun! A duke who owns a cocoa plantation (where he pays his workers) and who is interested in lower import taxes and abolishing the slave trade needs a bride whose family influence can help him implement these changes in parliament. Slightly more dastardly in his romantic pursuits, James invites four eligible innocents to his estate to audition for the job.

Charlene is persuaded to pose as her half-sister who is the legitimate daughter of Charlene's father and is currently out of the country and doesn't want to miss her chance to win the duke. Charlene helps her mother run a brothel, but has kept herself out of the trade. She agrees to the plan for a price. Too bad she falls for the duke while she's at it...

A great debut, and I'll be watching out for more Lenora Bell novels in the future!

England declares war on Germany. Mary immediately signs up for the war effort and is sent to be a teacher. Tom decides against enlisting, believing he will better serve London's school children. Heath Alistair forgoes his career at the Museum restoring paintings and enlists as an officer cadet. All three will question their choices and lives as war rocks the world.

I was not super enchanted with this story, but it did pick up about 1/2 way through and made me invested in the outcome. The casual racism displayed, especially as Mary teaches the "unwanted" children sent back to London from the countryside is shocking, but felt honest. Some of the love story was a bit of a stretch for me.

This will definitely be a library hit however.

Thank you to Netgalley for the advanced copy.
