Everyone Brave is Forgiven by Chris Cleave
3.0

England declares war on Germany. Mary immediately signs up for the war effort and is sent to be a teacher. Tom decides against enlisting, believing he will better serve London's school children. Heath Alistair forgoes his career at the Museum restoring paintings and enlists as an officer cadet. All three will question their choices and lives as war rocks the world.

I was not super enchanted with this story, but it did pick up about 1/2 way through and made me invested in the outcome. The casual racism displayed, especially as Mary teaches the "unwanted" children sent back to London from the countryside is shocking, but felt honest. Some of the love story was a bit of a stretch for me.

This will definitely be a library hit however.
