Short and violent.
Favorite line: "Gods can screw anything and anybody. For reference, see history."
I absolutely adore Jon Klassen's work. This Is Not My Hat has a lovely, yet subtle, dark humor to it that keeps it fresh and interesting for the adults (who I'm sure have to read it dozens upon dozens of times for their children), but it's still simple enough for the intended audience to enjoy.
Stealing is wrong, kids. Because someone might kill you for it.

Some day soon I am going to reread these books and watch the films to compare them scene-by-scene. Because I can and I want to. Film!Hermione is given a lot of Ron's good/brave/clever lines and it really affected his characterization in the movies vs. the books. Having seen the movies more recently than read the books, I want to make sure poor Ron's stature hasn't suffered in my mind. ;)
The genius behind Allie Brosh's art and stories is that while they are intensely personal (I don't know any people who spent such a long time in a dinosaur costume as she did), they still evoke a sense of camaraderie between the her and the reader. We laugh at the bizarre stories and love them fiercely because the concepts she throws at us are ones that we can all relate to.
While I appreciate and understand Watterson's need to retire from Calvin and Hobbes, I am still sad every time I remember there's nothing new.
Lena needs to go away. Hopefully after the "resolution" in this book, Sara (and Ms. Slaughter!) can finally, finally let this character fade into obscurity.
Otherwise this book was A+.

What a strange cast of characters.
Perun walked beside me and thumped his chest, which was covered in matted curls. He wore a fur cloak, but his thin shirt was open in front and his personal fur was on prominent display. “You see? Hair is good for place like this. Is stupid to shave.”
“Would you give the same advice to a woman?” I asked.
“Of course! Hairy woman is good. Give me beefy, hairy women.”
“I’m fresh out. But, hey, you know, that sounds like a spectacular band name. Beefy Hairy Women. Think of the logo and merchandising possibilities. Could be trendsetting.”
Perun looked distressed. “We should speak Russian. I not know what you mean.” We switched to Russian and chatted amiably in Suttung’s wake. Perun was excited about the possibility of seeing the giantesses, who might indeed be both beefy and hairy.
Hearne's characterization the Slavic god reminds me of Marvel's Hercules - a big brawny strong-man who is endearingly barbaric.
