How can somebody write so beautifully!! Atwood is a brilliant writer!! How can one even get such train of thoughts??
The book is heart wrenching, initially confusing, the style of writing is so different that one starts to get the gist of the stories after reading a few chapters of each of the story.

The book is a satire, mocking American army during WW2. It is hilarious yet serious too. There are officers who are corrupt, immoral and who make money at the expense of the army. They don't even have a yardstick on promotions which is given it to officers at whims and fancies. There is even an instance where an officer rapes a girl and kills her and walks away scot-free.
A beautifully written book, protagonist Janie suffers through all her marriages, 1st to Logan Killings, 2nd to Joe Starks but for the 3rd one to Tea cake, whom she loves dearly. He gets rabies after being bitten by a mad dog trying to save Janie from it. He becomes mad and tries to kill Janie but Janie shoots him to protect herself. She is a strong woman. Having fled from Logan, she lives with Joe for 20 years. They portray Joe as a typical male who makes Janie obey him, makes her wear a scarf to hide her beautiful hair and doesn't like if she ever displays any of her talents.
The first marriage to Logan was due to her Nanny who was worried about janie and caught her kissing a boy. Altough logan is way older than her and is not very handsome as compared to Janie, Nanny marries her off to him as he owns a 60 acre land. All her dreams of love are shattered once she marries him.

Its a simple novel about a girl trapped in the system because of her wrong connections and post on fb!!...Scary!!
Any book which is about books is really interesting. This book is not only about a book but is also a riveting gothic mystery.
THE ISLAND OF MISSING TREES BY ELIF SHAFAK
I am a nature lover and I love greenery. When one goes for a walk in a wooded area, one really feels wonderful. The fresh air, the beautiful trees, the chirping birds, and other small insects and creatures add to the amazement.

Where it happens? How it happens? – one doesn’t know.
There is a sudden onset of an epidemic which causes blindness. The characters have no names. The protagonist is the doctor’s wife who is not affected and has a good vision. The blind people are made to quarantine at an asylum where it turns out to be a battle for survival. As more and more blind people are brought in, the asylum becomes crowded. Sanitation, hygiene and food becomes a problem.

I took some time to finish this 700 page tome. This again is a book about a book. Although it is a brilliant prose, there are parts which moved slowly. It portrays feminism, motherhood, women’s liberation, politics, philosophy, communism and much more.
Novels based on wars or revolutions are not my favourites. Invariably it involves uprooting, death, and portraying survival instincts.
A Gentleman in Moscow, though it depicts the Russian revolution, it is a vastly different novel. Initially one might feel it is slow paced, but the story picks up later.
The writing style is brilliant. While reading the book one is transported to that era.
The protagonist is a Count Alexander Ilyich Rostov, is the gentleman in the title. He comes across as a positive, warm, courteous, amiable, well-read person and who is also a wine connoisseur. He is under a house arrest in the hotel Metropole of Moscow (which is a real hotel in Moscow). The best quality about the count is his ability to converse with anybody. Due to some circumstance, he is forced to take care of a five-year-old Sophia, whom he starts to love a lot as his own daughter.
The whole story revolves around the hotel Metropole and describes it is functioning. It portrays friendship, political changes, parenthood, and romance. There are major discussions regarding the effects of the revolution. Parts of the books discuss the work of Russian authors like Chekov, Dostoevsky, and Tolstoy. Many historical facts quoted here are real.
I liked the friendship between the count Mikhail Fyodorovich. They discuss communism, poetry, and books, which I found interesting.
Though it is a historical fiction, I would call it a contemporary classic. People who love historical fiction MUST read it.
