Definitely the best volume yet, but sadly the last! I stand by everything I said in my reviews of volumes 1 and 2, this is a really slow-paced story and I don't love it 100% of the time. But, this volume was a step in the right direction, it felt like we were finally getting somewhere. I'm really interested to see how this story will continue, especially in novel form!

This is truly one of my favourites books of all time. No, scratch that, this is one of my favourite stories of all time. I love the clear writing and all the action and how strangely realistic the whole thing is. It's a near-perfect read for me except for one thing. Something that probably doesn't bother everyone but oh boy did Lex get on my nerves. Not Lexi specifically because I think any child stranded in Jurassic Park should be able to cry and scream whenever they damn well feel like it. But, why was she the only one? And why was she vilified for acting her age? Lex is annoying, irritable, obnoxious, naive and ungrateful. But, she's also roughly 8 years old so I have one question for you Michael Chrichton. Why, in a book about escaped dinosaurs and abuse of scientific power, did you spend so much time making us hate the 8-year-old? (for reference, I think Tim is around 11 - this was reversed in the movie)

This was so good!! I've been putting off reading this for years because of my love for the movie but turns out this is actually fantastic, I can definitely see myself rereading this in the future! Such a smart book!

I love the art style but so far, unfortunately, I'm not loving the actual comics. Maybe it's just me who's thinking this with my screen-biased mind but, I really think this story would strive better onscreen. The comic is great but for me, it's too boring and way too slow, I'd rather this was a show more along the lines of Spinning Out (Netflix) or even an anime like Yuri On Ice.

Make a note, that by page 3 the angst was already too much for me. I genuinely think this will get better as the characters develop and as the plot picks up but so far this is just a lot of fluff (aka, no plot yet) and teen angst ft. fencing. (Also, I think this is going from a comic series to a series of novels so that should be interesting. Definitely, a weird trend happening in the comic-ya world rn.)

This was a lot of fun and I love the art style. I'm intrigued to see where the story goes and how the characters develop so I'll continue when Vol 2 comes out because I think it's better to read this story in trades rather than single issues.

“It takes strength and courage to admit the truth.”

THE GOOD
- The background commentary from C & S is a lot of fun
- I just really love Riordan’s writing
- Really tackles racism – Carter and Sadie don’t look related, Sadie looks like mum not dad and vise versa for Carter. There’s little things like police not blaming Sadie (light-skinned, blue eyes) but also assuming the dad is part of an extremist group & Carter (looks like his dad) is a troublemaker
- This series also shines a light on sibling relationships which is really interesting because Carter and Sadie were separated at age 6. i really can’t wait to see how their relationship develops!
Carter is a nerd and I love it. Sadie is just tired, I also love it.

“I wasn’t a ghost. I had a new shimmering golden form with wings instead of arms. I was some kind of bird. [No, Sadie, not a chicken. Will you let me tell the story, please?]…””

- There’s a lot of fun little moments like this throughout the series and they’re so much fun to read!
- Carter predominantly wears khaki trousers and button downs, so basically he dresses like Indiana Jones’ dad, but nowhere near as cool. For real though, imagine a 12-year-old dressed like that? And the reason behind it is so sad, too!

“I remember the first time he explained it to me. I was ten. We were on our way to the airport in Athens, and it was like 112 degrees, and I was complaining that I wanted to wear a T-shirt. Why couldn’t I be comfortable? We weren’t going anywhere important that day – just travelling. My dad put his hand on my shoulder. ‘Carter, you’re an African-American man. People will always judge you more harshly, and so you must always look impeccable.’ ”

THE MEH

- Starts off similarly to pjo – “if you’ve found this story etc”
- I really don’t love the female narrator, so I’m wondering if she’s part of the reason why I haven’t warmed up to Sadie as much as I have Carter, or if that’s a writing thing.
- This is obviously an earlier novel in his career feels very middle-grade
- This story mentions other gods, you can tell Riordan already had an interest in Greek gods
- I want to say that this is totally separate to PJO + later books but you can see the inspiration and ideas for PJO that he carried over to his other series.
- This story has a different take on Gods – fight them, use their power, control them etc. The gods are pretty much the “bad guys” in this world. I really enjoy this twist on the gods, Riordan never puts the gods on a pedestal in his books and I’m really enjoying this perspective. The gods are portrayed as very upper-class and greedy!
- A lot of similarities to pjo. Nectar (pjo) & purified water (tkc) + other that I can’t really explain it but it just feels really similar. It’s the same author obviously so that’s a big contributor but, this really does feel like a precursor to Percy Jackson sometimes (definitely not all the time) which can really take you out of the book at times. That being said, this is fantastic on its own and where I think Percy Jackson has a big focus on friendship which I love, this book has a big focus on family and sibling relationship development which is not something we see often and I’m living for it!
- Carter: *looks vaguely uncomfortable* Sadie: ZIA
- I don’t think this bothered me the first time I read this but the ending felt really slow and it took me a really long time to read and I had to take breaks (keeping in mind that I’m not a particularly fast reader anyway and I have a short attention span).

I know some people are mad about this because they thought it was a crossover but I knew it wasn't before I started reading it. So, taking this as it is, it was really helpful to me. I wanted to know more about these characters and now I do!

Black Widow Issue #1 - Possibly controversial but I've never cared for Black Widow, that being said, this was very compelling so I might give her series a go in the future, for something different.

She-Hulk Issue #1 - I knew nothing about She-Hulk going into this but now I am definitely going to search out more comics with her in it, she's a total badass!

Captain Marvel Issue #1 - I really recently read the first and second volumes in this trilogy, so this wasn't anything new to me. Still a lot of fun though.

Ms. Marvel Issue #1 - This is one of those fun comic circumstances where you have t have read other comics to understand how the hell the main character got their powers and I'm not about that life so can someone pls explain to me what the hell just happened. Otherwise, this was pretty different so I might give this a shot once the libraries re-open!
tw: racism

Thor #1 - "There must always be a Thor." Thor can't wild the hammer, so who can? ...Thor, apparently. We didn't get much in this issue but I definitely think I'll revisit the series before Love and Thunder comes out!

The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl Issue #1 - I'll be honest, I skipped most of this, it just doesn't seem like something I would ever enjoy.

I'm so glad Ed Gemmel and Esther are getting along again, they're one of my favourites duos in the series!

Finally more Ed Gemmel content! It's amazing to me how much I missed these characters, why did I leave so much time between volumes???

Also, can I just say the gals seem like the type of people to get obsessed with the Bon Apetit Kitchen.

I honestly don't know what to say bout this book. Like, it's super long, actually not that bad, Keanu Reeves was actually perfect casting for Harker (minus the awful accent he was obviously focusing too much on) and the story was actually really interesting.
Definitely recommend this if you're into gothic classics or vampires, in general.

“I am half agony, half hope...”
I recently buddy-watched The Lake House with my friend, Destiny and it inspired us to also buddy-read Persuasion because of the amazing parallel in the movie. I have read this before and I knew I enjoyed it, but honestly, re-reading this has really opened my eyes to the types of Austen books that I like, and what it is about them that I enjoy. I think it's the open inevitability of two characters meeting and falling in love that we have in this book. We have an amazingly strong main character in Anne Elliot, and an amazingly patient if a little heartbroken love interest in Captain Wentworth. I loved reading this and I already can't wait to re-read it again sometime soon!
