DNF @ Ch 69 / Page 414

I'm trying my hardest to read every single day of 2025, but I woke up painfully sick and exhausted this morning, and I've come to realise that the thought of picking up and finishing this book makes me even more exhausted. I was determined to finish this book originally, despite not enjoying the writing and being beyond confused by the world and the characters, but I just plain don't want to read anymore. I have nothing against the author; I got to meet her last year, and she was absolutely lovely, but this just wasn't the book for me. I might come back and finish this book at a later date, but for now, I'm putting it down.

DNF @ Chapter 2

I really thought this was going to be right up my alley, but then I had to force myself to finish chapter one... Nothing makes me sadder, but this was just completely the wrong tone for me.

not the book for me. a lot of x said this and y said this. also a lot of not explaining the world at all + long flashback chapters. just not in the mood to be so thoroughly confused rn.

DNF @ 30%

I have no doubt that this book is as good as everyone says it is, but I got 30% of the way through before I decided that this wasn't the book for me. I thought the setting and the idea of the masks was so unsettling and horrifying and something I really would liked to delve deeper into. But, the threat of SA feeling so real (absolute props to Sabaa Tahir because she made me feel every ounce of fear Laia felt) made me feel too sick to keep reading.
Always put your mental health first folks, even if it means DNFing a good book. ❤️

lost interest

I've been reading this god damn book for 2 god damn days and I'm somehow only 25% of the way through it. I'm just not liking a single thing about this one and I already looked up what happens in the rest of the trilogy so I can safely say I have no idea what TikTok is going on about because this book is ridiculous and not good. No thank you.

This was definitely an interesting book, and possibly even darker than book one. But, it seems that these books waffle on and tell you all about the characters for the first 500 pages, and I'm not exactly complaining but we only really find out what the plot is in the last 100 pages or so in each book.

I'm hoping to pick up book 3 soon!

I had every intention of finishing this but it was honestly too brutal and traumatising. 

This was very much directed towards people who are at a point later in their life than I am, also this is definitely aimed at people who work in an office, which I don't so I'm putting this down for now. 

Just couldn't get into this one. I don't think I even finished chapter 2.
