After a first foray into Robin Hobb’s works last year I really though she wasn’t going to be for me. But man I’m so glad I was wrong. Her characters, her writing, and the conclusion to this trilogy are just superb. I feel a bit of a book hangover after this. Definitely going to be ready more from her, but I’m going to have to sit with this one for awhile first.
Also Paul Bohemer was a lovely narrator fpr this series!

Clark’s steampunk fantastical version of our world in the 1900s is rich and compelling. The worldbuilding truly shines and I don’t think I’ve read such a vivid, compelling world for quite awhile! Additionally I’m always here for a good fantasy mystery and I want this to be a more common genre because I adore it. The mystery was a bit predictable and convenient at time but that made it feel cozy and familiar and it didn’t bother me because the true stars of this book are Fatma and the other characters and this brilliant world. Definitely give it a try; and I can’t wait for more in this universe.

Kingdom of Copper for me was a step up from The City of Brass. I already understood the names and political structures so it made Kingdom much less confusing and much more enjoyable. It’s a good thing I like political books because these books are almost all politics. The last quarter of the book was an absolute whirlwind and I loved it! 4.5 stars
Making Money was a ton of fun! I’m increasingly just a big fan of Pratchett, his characters, his wit, and the delightful absurdity.
Wow, what a poignant book! I often have a hard time with multigenerational stories. The links often feel strained in these types of stories. I also expected two or three POVs. But Homegoing insteads weaves a tapestry of narrative and illuminates themes from the stories of a family over the centuries. A really powerful read about family, the good, the bad, and what it takes to reconcile oneself to ones past and find home. It's a bit of a hard read at times, but very good.
Sad to say, but I just didn't care about this book very much. The first book was ok, and I picked up the second eventually. I think the audiobook didn't work well for me, but it just lacked something for me and the pacing was hard for me to get through. I think it was a little angstier than I wanted, the stakes didn't feel very real, and I wanted more about the world because the quest just really didn't hold my interest much. 2.5 stars
2023 reread
Just as great as the first time around! Really enjoyed it!
I actually liked Golden Son a lot better than Red Rising. The pacing felt better for me (still a bit slow at times, and it could have been more condensed), and it felt more like true sci-fi instead of urban fantasy. The world is fascinating and really well fleshed out, and I loved the political scheming and twists and turns. I also really love when an SFF book has commentary/philosophy that's goes beyond the story itself. There's a lot of good reflection on the cost of war, the power of love and friendship, and that really takes this to the next level for me. Darrow also grows a lot as a character and I'm looking forward to seeing how he develops in the next one. It's not often that I go straight on to the next book, but I really want to see where this is going. 4.5 Stars
