God, this book! This Author! These stories....so much romance, the sweetness of it sizzles my very veins!

I, for one, will willingly put my hands up and admit to being an absolute sucker for Nicholas Sparks novels. The love that is present in every single one, the fluidity of his writing and his growing strength of his relationships throughout his books, in my mind, are perfect for the genre in which he's writing.

The Longest Ride, follows Ira, a 91 year old war veteran, trapped in a car on an icy weekend desperately trying to survive. Ruth, his deceased wife appears to him, urging him to continue to fight and to distract him from his injuries, reminds him of the perfectly lovely life they had together. And then we meet Sophia and Luke who apparently have no connection to Ira or Ruth. We bump into them in the very beginning of their relationship and journey the bumpy road of new and young love with them. Finally, Sophia and Luke will meet Ira who will end up changing their entire lives.

The sweet sincerity of Ira, the tough shyness of Luke, the compassion in Ruth and the serene beauty of Sophia make up a tale both lovely and heartbreaking. You can't help but fall in love with each character.

As for the catch in the end, Ira, you clever dog ;)

Though publishers...c'mon...every single book is, and I will quote something I think I read on Goodreads somewhere, 'two white people almost kissing'. They could change it up a little bit.

As for Nicholas Spark's wife...she has to be the luckiest person in the world and I hope he writes you love letters all the time!!!

I absolutely adore Phillipa Gregory, she has a power in finding these unbelievable women in history who were so brave for themselves, their children and husbands but gloriously ignored by historians in favour of the warrior men. She gives them voices and tells their story in a way that sucks you right into a world that happened hundreds of years ago.

I would have given this five stars as the story of Jacquetta fascinated me and I had a day where I read and read and read a huge chunk of the book but then I continued to read and read and it wasn't near to ending yet and I became a bit frustrated. I still enjoyed the story and I have a fascination with the Cousins War/100 years war/War of the Roses now and luckily, Elizabeth and Edwards story is on tonight as a drama on tv!

It also makes me sad to read these books and have genuine feelings for these women and their families who did actually exist and find out that they didn't die comfortably in their beds at an old age. Jacquetta had a trial for witchcraft which I can only guess ended badly and the author noted that Richard and I think it would be Anthony, were murdered. Sad face...but the tragic truth of their lives will not stop me reading about them!

4.5 stars

Set in the Trojan era, The Moon Riders tells the story of Myrina who joins the legendary and spiritual Moon Riders, aged 13. With the warrior priestesses, Myrina grows in confidence, strength and power and learns how to defend herself and lead an extraordinary group of women. Myrina also becomes best friends with the Princess Cassandra, and has to face the army of Agamemnon, and Achilles, when they come to wage war on Troy.

I remember reading this when I was 13/14 years old and being absolutely gripped. As a young girl, I probably couldn't have read anything better to make me believe in myself and in the power of women. This book is full of powerful woman leaders. Women who aren;t afraid of standing up to men and who can ride and fight alongside the strongest of male warriors. It's also packed jam with female friendships!

I gave this book 4.5 instead of 5 just because on rereading it, I wasn't quite as gripped as i was when I was younger. It was still a fantastic tale about one of my favourite periods of time to read about.
