The Lady of the Rivers by Philippa Gregory
4.0

I absolutely adore Phillipa Gregory, she has a power in finding these unbelievable women in history who were so brave for themselves, their children and husbands but gloriously ignored by historians in favour of the warrior men. She gives them voices and tells their story in a way that sucks you right into a world that happened hundreds of years ago.

I would have given this five stars as the story of Jacquetta fascinated me and I had a day where I read and read and read a huge chunk of the book but then I continued to read and read and it wasn't near to ending yet and I became a bit frustrated. I still enjoyed the story and I have a fascination with the Cousins War/100 years war/War of the Roses now and luckily, Elizabeth and Edwards story is on tonight as a drama on tv!

It also makes me sad to read these books and have genuine feelings for these women and their families who did actually exist and find out that they didn't die comfortably in their beds at an old age. Jacquetta had a trial for witchcraft which I can only guess ended badly and the author noted that Richard and I think it would be Anthony, were murdered. Sad face...but the tragic truth of their lives will not stop me reading about them!
