I loved rereading this! It's been a long, long time since I read this when I was a child and it was great returning to the world of the 12-year-old Artemis Fowl - a child genius and criminal mastermind - who has decided to make the fairy world fall down at his feet and give up their gold so he can rebuild his family fortune.
I had forgotten a lot of the details about this story so for most of the book it was like reading it for the first time, and gradually in a great way the memories came back to me like how great Butler is and the hilariousness that is Mulch. I have always really loved Holly Short, the fairy that Fowl captures to catapult his plan into action, and secretly always fantasised about playing her in a film version, and this book just helped remind me of all the ways she is great.
This book had me laughing, gasping, reminiscing and was a plain old good time and I'm SO GLAD I decided to reread it!!

Daisy is 15 years old when she is shipped off to live with her cousins in England. But only a while after she gets there, a world war breaks out and Daisy and her cousins are left to fend for themselves. For the first time, Daisy learns how to look after others, and falls in love, while trying to keep everyone together and alive.
The first time I read this I think I was too young to understand everything going on and now I've read as an older reader, I definitely understood a lot more though the whole story isn't explained that well as we are getting Daisy's POV and she doesn't even really understand what is going on. It's very hard to know who is the bad guys and who are the good guys and what countries are fighting against who is it just rebels in every country??
I enjoyed the character development of Daisy and her love for her cousins, and her romantic love for her cousin Edmond (which yes, is kind of icky, but you kind of just go with it). I do think the ending is still a bit choppy and odd, and I really hated it when I was younger and I still didn't totally enjoy it now. As a youngish YA book, I feel like it's too open-ended and still full of questions, and definitely doesn't satisfy me much as a reader. I'm glad I gave this book a second chance though.

The Demon's Lexicon is a world full of demons and the magicians who call upon them. Nick and Alan Ryves are brothers and for all of Nick's life, they have been running from the magicians hunting them (basically all of the magicians in the UK). Nick doesn't care about anyone except for Alan, and he would do anything to help his brother and Alan will do anything to save Nick - so when Alan insists on helping two teenagers who come to them for help with a demon's mark, they get dragged along for the adventure as the Ryves brothers try to end their feud with the magicians once and for all and Nick ends up finding a lot of truths about himself.
I love, love, love this book. It's the book that made me fall in love with Sarah Rees Brennan's writing and I will always be thankful to my past self for picking it up in the Borders closing down sale! Nick is just everything you shouldn't want in a character and a guy but everything you end up loving. He is dark, and cruel with a violent edge and he really does not feel any sympathy and love for anyone. However he is smart, quick and witty and I just love his one-liners!
I love the introduction to the magicians, demons and Goblin Market in this book, and it really does promise so much to come. I can't wait to read the rest of the trilogy in close succession as the first time around there were large gaps between the books and I think this effected my reading a bit. Alan is just a sugarmuffin and deserves all the love in the world and Jamie is the cutest and Mae is kick-ass. I really recommend this book for people who are fans of The Moral Instruments or Unbreakable by Kami Garcia. It has magic, love and hot guys with swords YEP!

I read this in a little under two hours. Once I started it I just couldn't put it down even though my eyes were filling with tears and I could feel my heart physically aching inside my chest. This is a very tough read but an extremely powerful one. At times I felt myself actually recoil when I read about Kathleen pretending to hug and caress June in front of her dad as if I was actually in the story. This is a book that will stick with me.
I received a free digital copy of this book by the author/publishers via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book is set in Italy during WW2 and focuses on a fisherman called Cenzo who finds the body of a girl in a lagoon. The girl however is not dead and is on the run from the Nazis. Cenzo ends up helping her and gets roped into a strange world of fascists, Nazis and movie stars.
This book ended up being really disappointing for me. The start of it started out pretty well and I liked how Cenzo met Giulia. I also loved the Venetian setting and it's made me decide I'm definitely visiting Italy again next year! however the story started getting a bit boring for me and I just couldn't see where it was going. I didn't really like Giulia. I found her to be quite ungrateful considering this guy had saved her from being captured and I didn't see the allure of her that Cenzo seemed to see. She came across quite up herself and bland. I also fely like all the relationships that happened in this book were very forced and unnatural. They ended up together because it's like the author expected the readers to want it but the characters had no chemistry whatsoever.
This was a fast paced and easy to read book, and while i enjoyed learning more about Italy during WW2 it's definitely not something I would be picking up again.
