Slightly preachy and pro-religion at times, but also has some good methods on working on trying to find inner peace to reach happiness on your own terms. I enjoyed the meditation portions of the audiobook so highly recommend this in audio form. It's definitely clear that this was written before mental health and therapy advocacy kicked in because some of the verbiage is a bit on the toxic positivity side, but at least we can look at this through the eyes of seeing how far we've come in recognizing mental health.

TBH I didn't really care for the characters at all. However, I feel like I learned a lot about how the polyamorous community functions purely based on how thorough the author is in her writing. This book may not have been my cup of tea, but I'm definitely open to trying out other books by this author.

I wish there was slightly more lore regarding the monsters, but otherwise the message of letting go of those who won’t accept you for who you are came across beautifully in this.

Equal parts informative and inspirational. It's so disheartening to see a first-hand experience of just how far the justice system is willing to fuck over former prisoners, but on the opposite end, it was nice to hear that there are people who exist who are willing to fight to give those who have been imprisoned a chance at a normal life.

I was expecting a bit more of a paranormal aspect purely based on the summary on the back of the book cover and the general lore regarding Nelly Butler's hauntings, but this was still a decently written historical fiction overall. A bit slow-paced, but I was at least able to get a clear understanding of the atmosphere and social environment at that time.

I’m pretty darn confident that most works, whether written or visual, with a mad scientist or someone looking to play God were inspired by this book. Considering how long ago this was originally published, it’s one of the classics that definitely stands the test of time and doesn’t have a dated feel to it.

TBH I wish this was a longer work a-la-'In Cold Blood,' especially since they needed to get permission to open the case back up. This felt more like an extended episode of a true crime podcast, but I did really enjoy Bryan Burrough's writing (wasn't dry like some true crime can be) and his narration (which I know is a rarity) so that alone deserves a slight boost.

I went into this thinking this was going to be 'Good Luck Chuck' (a movie I despise) but ended up getting hit in ALL THE FEELS! FUCK! I was not prepared to be receiving a mini therapy session while reading this!
