I’m actually kind of happy with how this ended. I feel like the bad person got what was coming and that there was some closure

This book took me just under 5 hours to read

Having a narrator that is mute is not something you see very often. I feel like this was really well written getting her POV and her frustration on the one character who knows sign turning his back when he didn’t want to answer her questions

The first quarter of this book was slow but definitely needed to explain this character and how the world saw her

The second quarter was a good change of scene and introducing some characters with some mystery behind them

The third quarter I felt dragged a bit longer than it needed to

And the fourth quarter was really well paced

It was a fairly quick read and definitely bit of a tough start but as someone who wrote a lot and could tell this was the author’s first book/novella. I’m wanting to read the next books because I’m curious as to how this friendship of Paladin and Necromancer evolves

You can definitely tell it improved as the chapters went along. I can’t think of the word I’m trying to find for the next pieces of the series but I’ll probably get them once I get through more of this monster of a TBR list

I originally started with the audiobook and realized I can’t focus on the audiobook. So I started the ebook version

Okay so none of my predictions were correct. It was better than I was expecting because man those last 50 pages or so moved fast

It definitely gave me Murder on the Orient vibes (which I liked better than this but as a modern style I guess)

I was really impressed with this book. It takes place in a very diverse space setting. Different species (without sounding speciest, one of the main characters is a feathered “lizard” and her species is very affectionate). The author comes up with new words, phrasing and history that even though I’ve never used these phrasing before, it was so easy to follow

It does flip flop between each member of the crew - which can be a bit jarring at first but it’s pretty fluid once you get used to it - especially when you’re in the perspective of a different non-human member of the crew and learn how their bodies work

Oh I’m mad

You know, I decided to read spoiler free reviews on StoryGraph. I’m glad I did because this would have been a MUCH lower score if I wasn’t at least prepared for the bullshit that was the final line of this book

302 of the 303 pages we’re really good. The pacing felt really good, the twists were not what I was expecting and even my trying to piece it together was fun

Page 303/303…man…

You know, I give this author kudos because she started on Watpad and you can definitely tell why she’s a NY Times best seller

But man her stand-alone book endings…I guess there’s a reason why there are a ton of author answered questions asking if (X book) is getting a sequel because oof

I could hear Cecil’s voice while reading which made it a lot more fun to read. Probably a higher score than it should be but I’m biased and this got me to listen to the podcast again so I’ll take it

I haven’t had a book hold my breath like this one did since Small Angry Planet or Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. I think I practically held my breath for about 20 pages (probably less but it felt like it)

It’s a beautifully written story about nature, love, loss and abandonment and a murder mystery thrown in

(Update from the future: The rating will stay the same but it loses some personal points due to some drama I’ve heard/read about, I still feel like it was very much a love letter to nature)

Okay, so…this book was really good. The author definitely did a lot of research - between medical books, movies (that don’t include Sybill) and DID YouTubers

It’s got some majorly dark themes - which, if the MC has DID of course it’ll be dark - but they don’t get into a lot of details just…letting you know what happened

It does actually specify about integration and fusion as well as the difference between both. If Dylan switches, it does tell you who is fronting or who’s perspective it’s in

The only reason I gave it this score, is instead of a higher score is that it only takes place over the course of about 1-2 months. Actually dealing with the trauma and other related issues take MUCH much longer than what happened in this book

Plus the amount of support from everyone is…a bit jarring in some cases - but the author did include someone who immediately snubbed Dylan when she tried to explain what was happening

But even then, it’s definitely recommended and we’ll written - especially if you’re curious how people with DID experience things

Well, it wasn’t as deep of a read as what I’ve been reading - which was fine. Because the last few books had me thinking too hard and had me in “therapist talk” brain

I’ll admit, it didn’t really end how I was expecting it to. Sure, it had a baddy - not the person I was expecting - but still expected

The main character was obnoxious. Because my god she was so full of herself…but honestly? She fit with the rest of the misfits…

Fuck Jackie though. She can go lick mold
