A Wrinkle in Time

Madeleine L'Engle

DID NOT FINISH: 45%

I’ve heard this was a classic and I wanted to try reading it as I never did in school. I tried. I legitimately tried.

It was really hard to read when a lot of the language was hard to understand - which can normally be really well done. But this just made my head hurt trying to understand what they were talking about

Maybe I’ll come back to it later, maybe I won’t

Only giving it a 3.75 because, man, was it explicit. It made sense in the story and it was actually well written - compared to other smutty stories I’ve read. But I want to give it more points for how they described the relationship between Hades & Persephone. The idea of Persephone being the “Honey hold my flower” is definitely there and I loved it

I’m really happy that Hades focused on consent and after care. Not a lot of smut writers remember those pieces

Man where to start. Being a big fan of The Magnus Archives I know how Jonny writes pretty thick so it’s why it took me a while to really start. And just like TMA, it starts slowish not a bad slow but you definitely need to get past the first 15 pages or so before the mystery starts picking up

Each chapter follows a different person who either lives in this housing complex, works there or the agent who rented out the apartments. The final chapter brings them all together in the climax of what was told in the prologue

There are definitely some deep and hard topics to read about but even then, I’d go back to older chapters to see if I can spot where a name had previously been mentioned or what apartment these people were from

My god those last 50-100 pages were a wild ride

Pip needs therapy. Like seriously needs therapy…I hated a character in the first book because he was a jackass but I gasped at the end…

Very diverse cast of characters. Also very diverse cast of mythology (you’ve got Thai, Sidhe, vampires, werewolves, etc) and even with that, the author definitely sticks with the expansion on how these creatures work

This book is considered a romance novel and after discussing with the book club members, I agree - try to keep in mind that this book takes place over about 2 days. So when you go from two characters pining over each other to straight up smut for about 2 pages, it feels really awkward and unneeded

I would recommend it to anyone curious, but just…keep in mind it gets very detailed in the spice in the last few chapters

I hadn’t really sat down to read in years (minus fanfictions) so for me to say this book got me back into reading, I’ll recommend it to a lot of people

If you have a true crime kick or enjoy the feeling of watching a mystery series/movie, I highly recommend this

I actually read this originally back when it started on r/nosleep. I had gotten away from reading some nosleep stories, so hearing that this was published into a full novel got me super excited to read the published version. The premise of this story has always stuck with me

For the published version, I feel like it expanded on the original stories and gave a more fulfilling ending than the original. If you’ve read the nosleep version, you’ll be happy to know there are some original chapters

And there’s an expanded backstory for the Rules - which I feel gives some good closure for the narrator’s journey
