I listened to the audiobook

Ended way more hopeful than I thought it would considering the cluster fuck that was the ending. I’ll recommend it just…I note, I thought I was near the end of the audio book and when I was looking at my timestamp I was 6 hours into a 13 hour audiobook…so it’s slow as hell…and honestly the only character I liked was the Concierge and we never even learned her actual name

I liked the premise of this book but I feel I probably would have enjoyed it better as a physical book. The audio book was really nice - especially between the alternating narrators. Similar to Woman in the Window, I feel the twists would have hit harder if I could have had a new voice for each character in my head

Besides that though, I think I gasped at one - if not both - of the big twists. The final chapter confused me a bit but it was kind of interesting to get a new perspective (which was weird hearing it from Adam’s perspective)

Whoo BOY this one was rough if you have the idea of the pandemic in your head. This was published in 2018, so the fact that this felt really close to home to some things, this…makes me shiver just thinking about the quick plot

However, while it was a good premise, and definitely gave me some chills, the ending really fell flat. Maybe it’s because it’s technically a novella? I’m not sure but it just felt like “op I’m writing too much, time to just throw an ending on there”

So this got a moderate score if for no other reason than I’m biased because of the movie

It was nice to see the differences and actually seeing the science being explained with the different people. I can definitely see why Jeff Goldblum was cast as Malcom or why they flipped the kids ages/aged them up a bit

I’m not sure if I’ll read Lost World but maybe further down the line

WHOO BOY, do I have thoughts on this

Was it bad? No, I actually enjoyed this quite a bit. Do I wish I could have ripped out about 150-200 pages because Pip went so off character and pissed me off during that time frame because of what she was doing? Fuck yes

For the final book of the trilogy I feel like it wrapped up a lot of loose ends and helped go end some of the demons that were sitting around since the first book

But god I hated that whole period of…if we put it into 1/4’s, it was roughly 2/4-3/4 of the book. Because of that weak part of that quarter, the final quarter felt really…off

But I liked the final page/picture. Because at least that means that the whole plan actually worked

Thoughts Part 2: Okay so raging about this, I also have the devils advocate voice in my head that tells me that 1/4 that I hated could also be a whole result of un-treated PTSD

Which…okay, I’ll give it a little bit of a pass for that

Holy shit that was a really good ending. I was expecting a few things with those twists but man there were like…3 within the last 50 pages

Man that was good

That was very gay in a sapphic kind of way. When one of the leads is a trans bi cannibal *chef kiss*

This may have been a teen/young adult book but it was enjoyable. Probably wasn’t the right age range for this but it was nice regardless

Also I called it on the twist but it was still good

I picked up this book at a convention near me

Adam is a magical disaster gay who came from a broken family. Reading about the magical towers in Lakeside and Casa Bonita were fun. I’m down to read the rest of the series - especially with how he (the author) separates Death and her Reapers

I am still very curious about who the bad warlock is

Man that was a lot better than I thought it would be. Considering I grabbed it because I’m big on true crime and it was in the horror section at B&N. I’ve currently only read one of Stephen King’s books, but this reminded me of what I read back in high school.

True crime/Cold case blogger talking to an acquitted murderer with some supernatural weaved into the story? Yes please

This was a good break from the straight up thriller books I’ve been reading

It wasn’t…bad? I mean it wasn’t great either. There wasn’t really any…it didn’t really end. It did but it was very much just a…not ending

I feel I should have DNF’d it. But this one gained a few points because when there was a climax it was exciting but then it just…flatlined
