This was a fairly quick read. I’ll admit, it was a lot more…action than I thought it would be
Darby was awesome I thought. The antagonists got on my nerves quite a lot - especially Antagonist B. I’ve read some stuff with sociopathic characters but good lord they took it to a whole new level

Holy shit. So I feel like I need to do a spoiler free thoughts as a general statement and then I’ll do some post reading spoilers thoughts because so many thoughts and possibly questions
So…spoiler free first. It’s incredible how much you can hate a character but the plot wins you over and helps you finish it. Jack Sparks is an arrogant asshole who explains anything supernatural away with science. He makes a fool of himself more times than I can count, and he’s insufferable
During the first 3/4 of the book, the main thing that saves the plot are the characters that he interacts with. I would have given this a little higher of a score, but Jack being insufferable really made it hard. But the last 1/4 of the book really made it worth while
Okay so spoiler talk:
The last quarter of the book really gave this above a 4 rating for me. The full circle of some of the stuff Jack experienced and had happen made me gasp. The jar, I feel I almost cried over but then I realized that being washed out by salt means Jack’s sprit would finally be put to rest…I hope at least
I can’t believe his brother is going to make the same mistake Jack did…would he be on a different path now? Really makes you wonder

Good lord I’m glad it’s done. It’s such a hard book to explain how I felt about it. It’s interesting that I’ve technically read two books about dealing with grief but this one just felt so…flat? I’m really not sure how to explain it…
Man this was…it was great. It’s a story about an unexpected Chosen One, her found family and learning to do better with trauma - generational and current.
I feel like I gave it a somewhat lower score because Clem drove me nuts because she was so hard headed, but her character growth was fantastic
The abuse in the Knights was very familiar and something I’m glad was something I only lightly experienced when I went to military school. My two years at that school were tame compared to hazing I’d heard about from the Academy or years before in the college. The abuse and hazing I’d heard about, I felt for for the Dragonriders. Because I knew people that held onto those memories. Some of them did not get the help they desperately needed and turned into assholes who I’m glad I don’t speak to anymore
And Anderson doesn’t bury the gays that made me so happy

This took me less than 30 minutes to read. It was…an interesting approach to format and everything. I feel like I’d like a full book with the format between Facebook messages or just SM messages in general
Probably won’t read the sequel but at least it wasn’t terrible I guess

This one is really hard for me to pinpoint my thoughts on it. I feel like it was a very good story of grief and the act of letting go - less so a horror story
The horror of what happened to Leah and what happened in the ocean is definitely something that is interesting and sad to see unfold
I do wonder, if they were stranded for the 3 weeks and the 6 months was Leah writing and trying to converse with the creature. I wish we could have seen the papers
But all in all, not a bad book at all, and definitely would recommend it for someone wanting to read a good book that deals with grief

Wow, so I really went into this blind. The back description sounded interesting and it really didn’t disappoint
A lot of the religious pieces made sense considering that a lot of it was really working through the character’s own religious trauma
You’ve got 3 POVs. The Mother, The Daughter and The Fiancé. It didn’t really piece together for me until we hit part two of who was who, but boy was it a jaw dropper for me

Oof okay, so this one wasn’t bad but man did it drag on for the first…60% of the book. I feel like it took waaaaaay too long for it to get to the suspenseful parts with the ghouls and stuff
But once it got to them, man was it juicy

I didn’t think I’d find this, let alone for free so I only typed this up after I wrote it
A coworker gave me the recommendation so figured I’d check it out. The body horror was definitely chill giving but man the misogyny didn’t age well at all in this
I can definitely see how this is a classic for a short story. I guess there’s a game for it? It was an okay read
Maybe I’ll try reading it again in the future to see if I get more out of it

Honestly, I enjoyed this. I’m kind of glad that I read similar book first because at least I understood that being from the stalker/murderer’s POV adds to the horror
Now I’m wanting to watch the movie even more because I want to see why everyone says the movie is better (not that I doubt that because Kon was a film genius)
