This was a cute, fun read! The writing style wasn't my favorite and some parts seemed to drag a bit, but overall it was good! I was really invested with Sophie and Howl and the ending between them was SUPER cute, though I wish there was more. I don't think I will be reading the next two books since they're no longer the main characters, but I'm so happy to know that they're married now! :)
OK so lemme start off by saying that I was completely unaware that this was not, in fact, a standalone, but a trilogy, so I was NOT PREPARED for a massive frickin cliffhanger.
That aside, I started this book with high hopes because the opening page with the Truly Devious ransom letter was amazing and I was very interested in getting started. But then, nothing happened...for like, 200 pages. It was just a lot of mundane things like figuring out classes and such, and even some of the flashback chapters got a little boring after the first few.
The story finally picked up for me around page 300 and I finished it pretty quickly after that. I'm left a little lost because I got absolutely NO answers and I'm stuck with this giant cliffhanger which I'm not at all sure how it plays into the rest of the story.
The characters were alright, but none of them really stood out to me. I like Stevie and I waaant to like David, but now I'm suspicious of everybody because they could be a frickin murderer. Ugh.

OHHHHHHHH MAN. THIS WAS A ROLLERCOASTER
*edit* Alright, so two days later and I'm back to elaborate and type through my feelings about this book. So I started this because I needed an audiobook to listen to on my drives to work, it was available in the library, and because I'd seen the cover pop up on so many rec things on tumblr I decided, why not?
First off, I've listened to about 5 books on audio and I've found it to be difficult for me to focus and I tend to zone out a bit. NOT FOR THIS. I was left thinking about things that happened in this book for HOURS afterwards and it made me excited for my drives to work because it would mean I would get to listen to it.
So ya, I know. Mare is a special snowflake and the premise is something I've read about SO many times, but this book has made me realize how much I LOVE a royalty trope. A lot of my favorite books have royalty involved somewhere in them so I guess I just usually drift towards those and enjoy them.
I actually like Mare and don't really find her annoying like some other reviewers do. I was REALLY conflicted about the ships in this book because obv I started shipping Mare with Cal but then Maven showed up and I was like- oh. So THEN it was like, OK I really want to like Maven but I K N O W that he's gonna pull some shady shit but I'm gonna root for him anyway while also simultaneously freaking out every time Mare and Cal have the slightest bit of interaction? So yeah. This book had me in my emotions.
There's a good amount of cheesy and cliché things that happened in this, but not enough to bother me enough that it would ruin the book or series for me. Some twists I expected and others I REALLY REALLY DID NOT so I was kept entertained. I'm on the second book now!

3.5 stars for this one! I enjoyed this quick read, though I didn't really ship Cas and Anna romantically. I reallllly liked Cas though. His narration was laugh-out-loud funny at times and I like the way Blake writes. She creates funny and heartwarming characters and I was even a little bit creeped out there at the end. I don't have plans to pick up the second book anytime soon, but maybe somewhere down the line. I actually was pretty satisfied with the ending of this. *spoiler******** #JusticeForTybalt tho cuz f*** that voodoo demon
Sometimes I'm really upset that there's no half-star rating option and other times I'm grateful because I feel like I would be too indecisive about ratings, but I would give this book 3.5 stars if I could.
I listened to this on audiobook and it was SO hard to pay attention during the entire first half of the book. I had to look up chapter recaps online because I'd zone out for short periods of time and the story was just not holding my interest. It definitely picked up in the latter half once Seraphina and Kiggs encountered the dragon for the first time.
Speaking of, I'm CONFLICTED about Seraphina and Kiggs! I really like them but I also really like Glisselda and don't want her to get hurt :( I was waiting for her to do something that made me dislike her so I could really root for Seraphina and Kiggs, but she really is super sweet and I feel bad for her haha. (Though I will say that hearing Glisselda and Kiggs referred to as cousins A LOT and knowing they are engaged was weird and unsettling lol)
I really liked a lot of the characters in this book. I loved all the people from Seraphina's mental garden, especially Lars and Abdo, and the relationship between Seraphina and Orma was sweet. I'm not in any rush to continue this series but will probably pick up the second book sometime in the future.
*update: HAAAAA jk I just read reviews for the second book and I will NOT be picking it up lol wah wah wahhhhhhhhh

Reading this book took me longer than I wanted it to take, not just because of its size but because I wasn't totally invested. I was debating between a two and a three star review towards the end but the last 100 pages or so bumped it up to three.
I picked this up for the second time after reading SO many reviews and recs comparing Locke to Kaz Brekker. I definitely see the resemblance, but I love Kaz SO much that it'd be really hard to top it. I liked Locke but he's nowhere near Kaz in my opinion.
I really liked Locke's and Jean's friendship though, and I enjoyed the ending a lot. It was a little difficult for me to keep up with the jumping back and forth in time in the beginning, but I got used to it by the end. I'll probably pick up the next book in the series eventually. I'm very curious about what happened between Locke and Sabetha...

I don't really know how I feel about this book. There were definitely parts that I enjoyed but there were others that I got annoyed by. The format could get really annoying at times, not sure if that was because I listened to this on audiobook or not. I also could NOT STAND the two "nats" emails/faxes. They were SO hard to get through. I'm hesitant to write anyone's name or places because I'm not sure about the spelling of anything because of the audiobook haha.
I really liked Bee, but I felt that she came off WAY younger than she was. I pegged her as like an 8-10 year old and had to constantly remind myself that she was actually 15. Bee's and Bernadette'a relationship was obviously the highlight of the book, but I felt a bit let down by the ending.
