Truly Devious
by Maureen Johnson
OK so lemme start off by saying that I was completely unaware that this was not, in fact, a standalone, but a trilogy, so I was NOT PREPARED for a massive frickin cliffhanger.
That aside, I started this book with high hopes because the opening page with the Truly Devious ransom letter was amazing and I was very interested in getting started. But then, nothing happened...for like, 200 pages. It was just a lot of mundane things like figuring out classes and such, and even some of the flashback chapters got a little boring after the first few.
The story finally picked up for me around page 300 and I finished it pretty quickly after that. I'm left a little lost because I got absolutely NO answers and I'm stuck with this giant cliffhanger which I'm not at all sure how it plays into the rest of the story.
The characters were alright, but none of them really stood out to me. I like Stevie and I waaant to like David, but now I'm suspicious of everybody because they could be a frickin murderer. Ugh.
