I was apprehensive when I read that this was a retelling of Romeo and Juliet. I don‰ЫЄt typically like retellings, but wow. I kept reading it and imagining the setting as today. Everything fit. So much and so little has changed. How powerful that this book exists. My instinct is to feel like there‰ЫЄs not enough to the story, but that‰ЫЄs not true. It‰ЫЄs just enough. Like memories - you don‰ЫЄt remember hundreds of pages of details. You remember the important bits.

This might be my favorite of the series so far, mostly because we got to hear so much more from Robin, and I love her character. I also liked that I predicted some of the ending but didn't get it all right. I'm definitely seeing a pattern here: Cormoran follows leads, it looks like it's none of them, 3/4 of the way through he figures it out but doesn't reveal to reader, he does something a little stupid to catch the killer, everything works out. I don't hate it! Hoping I can watch the BBC show now!
Loved this book. Especially since I read on my kindle during my first backpacking trip! I loved reading not just a fiction hiking book but YA as well! I didn't love the set up at the beginning between the protagonist and her friend. I wanted McKenna to be more angry at Courtney, but she seemed so chill by the situation, despite really lying to her parents for the first time. Sam was good, albeit a bit abruptly dynamic midway through when he decided to go ahead and not be a dick to McKenna. I also didn't love the situation with them lost in the wood. Hmm, now that I think about it, there was a lot I didn't actually like about the actual story. However, I loved the concept so much. And I always love reading about backpacking a hiking because it just makes me want to be doing it too. That being said, I would definitely recommend this lighthearted read about a very headstrong, independent, and outdoorsy girl.
Absolutely fantastic. This novel took its time slowly building the story through beauty and care. I adore Kya and love the way her story weaved through her stages of being alone and around others. Absolutely recommend.
Gripping story, and seamless transition between the characters. I didn't love it the way I have loved many other YA novels, but I appreciate the gravity given to Finch's mental illness and the way it is handled by his family and others.
A powerful and epic novel. Had me researching the true history of Chile and comparing it to the current climate in the US.
I‰ЫЄve read better detective books, but this one did hook me from the start and keep me engaged the entire novel. I got annoyed with the regular use of the misleading foreshadowing at the end of chapters (i.e. Little did he know he would not return to the house that night....etc). A bit anticlimactic at the end. Not a bad novel, but not incredibly impressed with my first Stephen King novel.
This book is an absolute treat. I wish I had read it on the beach, or a cruise ship. A treasure of a first novel for O‰ЫЄLeary, I was surprised by the depth of the story and the care given to the distinct personalities and backgrounds of all secondary characters. This was not a ‰Ычsimple‰ЫЄ surface level novel, and it was so pleasing to really sink into the world created through the secondary storylines as well.
