I was pleasantly surprised that I didn't mind the many POVs in the book. Usually, I don't like books with more than two POVs. I feel like first the books felt more like a light mystery to me and I would have preferred it to stay that way. The sudden change in pace of the story was a little weird to me and didn't feel completely right. Also, I do think some things were quite predictable. However, I wasn't sure who actually did it until the end (maybe also because I was still hoping for a different outcome). But overall, I did enjoy the time I had with the book and would recommend it especially for people who are only just getting into reading thrillers.
I have mixed feelings about this book. At first, I did enjoy Amber's part quite a bit and was really interested in what's going to happen. At some point though, I got a little bored with her story (which could have been due to the fact that I listened to the audiobook though).
So, it was a nice change when the second part started. Even though I probably enjoyed the second part more than the first, it felt like what we found out then came out of nowhere and I wasn't expecting this kind of change. Also, some things that happened towards the end also were a little too obvious for me.
Nonetheless, I did enjoy most of the book and hence rate it as a 3 star (maybe even a 3,5)!

I loved this book! I was hooked from the start and really enjoyed the twist!
I didn't go into this book with a lot of expectations. Usually, I don't like stories that take place on one day and one place because I tend to get bored with the story quite easy.
At the beginning I didn't feel like that. I was interested to find out what Darby is going to do with the knowledge she discovers. But it was revealed quite early on who the kidnapper was which kind of took the thrill away for me. Mainly that was due to the fact that I just didn't really care much about the characters.
Overall I think this story was not the kind of thriller that fits my taste. But I did still want to know how it ended, so I guess I did enjoy it a little. That's also my reasoning for giving it three stars. The ending itself did surprise me but also confused me a little because of the sudden change in the writing style on the last few pages.

I already tried listening to the audiobook once before but didn't finish it before I had to return it. The first half or even a little more of this book is really slow and not exactly what you expect from this type of the book. However, it does give you a very good feel for the house Noemi is staying in and the people she is staying with. Because of all the good reviews and goodreads and youtube I gave it another chance and got the audiobook again for a rather long car ride and I was surprised that as soon as the story finally picked up some speed and a few (very creepy) things were revealed, I did really enjoy the rest of the book.
Because of these thoughts I was unsure if I should give the book three or four stars and decided on 3,5 because the first part did bore me quite a bit but the second part really made up for it.

Okay, so I am kind of torn with my rating and thoughts about this book! I started reading it because I loved Local woman missing by this author and found it available on Libby.
I did quite enjoy how it started (I like dual timelines in thrillers/mysteries). Although, I kind of got a little bored by the way Jessie’s insomnia was described because it was so obvious that she was just imagining things. I mean I guess that’s what insomnia does to you but in this book I felt it was a little much. But I was still curious because the „twist“ seems the be revealed quite early on and I felt like there was something more coming.
Then I read a few comments on here and was expecting a really bad twist. The ending or the actually twist however did not bother me too much it was more how it was dealt with it afterwards. I know this sound quite cryptic but I can’t really say much more without a spoiler.
So overall I give this book 2.5 - 3 stars because I didn’t not like the ending and was a little bored in between.

So, I was pretty hyped for this book. My expectation was that this is a proper horror story that will scare the s*** out of me. However I found the first part read more like a thriller and not like the horror book was expecting. When we finally got to the horror part of the book I felt it to come quite unexpected and just didn’t make much sense in my opinion and I couldn’t get rid of this feeling until the ending.
However, I still rounded up to 3 stars because I did enjoy the write style. I only didn’t really like the twist which is quite subjective anyway. Maybe I should go with audiobooks with these type of books though - that way I might be more scared because I can here the creepy characters speak? :D

I really liked the atmosphere but I expected a little more from the story. For me it was not really thrilling and I didn’t catch how the main characters could form a bond like they did so suddenly.
I usually don’t read legal thrillers but because this one was written by Karin Slaughter I tried it. Overall, I did quite enjoy this book. However, it was a little too much focus on the legal thriller aspect of the book for me. The crime itself was very heartbreaking and everything you would expect from Ms. Slaughter! Nonetheless, it didn’t quite reach four stars for me - but I‘ll try again with another novel by her :)
