I am trash for an upright/uptight woman + crime lord combo and these two were absolutely combustible. I didn’t super love the conflict at the end and Duran never gives an epilogue and I really needed one here! 😭

HOOK THIS TO MY VEINS MY GOD THE PLOT THE STEAM THE TENSIONNNNNN. Nobody does class difference like Duran. Lilah is so cool. Christian loves her more with every “unladylike” habit he learns about. There is so much derring do and Catherine and Lily’s friendship SLAPS SO HARD. UGH SO GOOD.

I am not in the right headspace for this time capsule of 90s misogyny, fatphobia and homophobia.

This book is a classic farce with ever-increasing stakes and the two mains are so h*rny for each other I was living for every longing glance and brush of a hand. Vasti once again had me frothing at the mouth by the time Lydia and Arthur finally kissed++. I cannot overstate how delicious the tension is in this book MY GOD.

I enjoyed Lydia’s radical politics and took heart from her activism. I hope I can feel like throwing up and do my part anyway for the foreseeable future, because we are going to need all of us.

I wish this book had about three fewer side plots so we could have spent more time with Blackwood and Alice. It felt very scattered - what was the main conflict? Worbury? The terrible school? Alice and Blackwood being too busy to be married? Ripley not having his stuff together? Ultimately I really liked both Alice and Blackwood and wish Chase had refined this book a little more. Even if we didn’t get marriage in crisis like we were shown in the first two books, I would have enjoyed the story of these two falling in love and making a life together. It just really felt like this book needed a strong content edit and direction. All that said it was enjoyable, in a way, and the mains were great together. The dialog is funny and Alice is a great FMC, headstrong and fierce.

This collection of articles and interviews from Mariame Kaba explores ideas of organizing and abolition of the prison industrial complex. This collection is a good introduction to Kaba, how she thinks about community and healing, and how she works toward abolition. Sometimes I felt like I was listening to a conversation without context and that was a little frustrating but overall, this is a good collection for anyone interested in how we might work to change our world from one of punishment and surveillance to one of community and care.

This romance made me so angry, mainly because the men in it are SO CHILDISH and the whole vibe is “oh boys are so stupid.” I was just incredibly put off by Ripley’s childish behavior, Ashmont’s drunkenness and the lengths to which EVERYONE in this book coddled them, including Olympia. Girl, you deserve better than another child to manage.

I loved this full length Murderbot story with lots of new characters (and some familiar ones!).
