I just couldn’t get really into the story. Plus the way they talked about Aboriginal people felt gross. 

Really fun! I loved the way Johnson showed language changes over time. Some good twists, and still enough questions left still unanswered to make me excited for the second. 

I love Mosscap so much. Its friendship with Dex is so lovely and you really see it grow in this book. I like how Chambers isn’t trying to give answers to the feeling in the book, just simply voicing it. Still one of my fave books. 

I had a slow time getting into this, but once there I was swept away by Blackmore’s prose. I love the repetition of “what does X dream of?”  I knew of Tarare, and felt he was handled so gently and well. My heart broke for him. 

You don’t need to know anything about horse racing, the book does a good job of introducing needed information. Ruffian seems like she was a special horse and her life was too short.

the part that made me start crying was the picture of her groom, Dan Williams, outside the Equine Hospital when they put her down. He looked so sad.

A book that needs several returns to fully take in. I followed the instructions as the start and read random letters at a time. I like to think how the next time I read it, it will be differently ordered. I tried keeping notes on some of the people, but it is all muddled. 

Reread of this book because it's a perfect book for when you're feeling stuck and unsure. 

Had to know what happened next and couldn't put this book down! Zhu Chongba is such a fierce and determined person and I loved seeing how their story was so directed by them in a world that is such a mess! I also loved how Zhu and Ouyang's stories are juxtaposed with each other. Perfect amount of politics and war and just plan scheming. Can't wait to read the sequel!

A lovely cozy book that's a cheerful read! Do not read while hungry though.
