Not usually a horror reader, but the magical realism parts of this book really made it for me. The depiction of grief that each person was experiencing and how it could be so all consuming, to the point that you can't even see fully outside yourself.
Like Magos really only seeing her own and ignoring Jospeh and later doing that performance pieces without considering how it could affect M.
M's chapter really brought the whole story together and was so wonderfully written. A wonderfully queer book!

Jane Austen never fails to amaze me with the cleverness of her prose. A true and deep understanding of humans.

Highlighted how grief is both universal and individual.

Beautifully and thoughtfully done, just like the bones handled by the people in the story. It was amazing how Hagerty really emphasized how the work they were doing was not only science, but ritual. I had to blink away tears several times.

I think this was an interesting book, however I think to me the mystery part was something I was not terribly into. I liked the setting and the political intrigue bit, and thought maybe that it would be enough. I think the author is good, just not for me!

Really enjoyed these stories and Soueif's language. My fave was the first one, with a little girl describing her life and family.

Loved the illustrations of all the various homes and things that made up Jane Austen's world. A well rounded introduction to Miss Jane Austen and her family. Of course this is a short book, so don't look to this book for details. I wish there had been a family tree somewhere in the book to help me track various family members.

I just kept getting annoyed at Zhade and Andra. The mystery of the story kept me going, and I still found the language stuff interesting. Ultimately though I found this far less enjoyable than the first book.

Main character was so annoying and condescending.
