What a train ride.
To quote a line from the book:
To quote a line from the book:
"It was supposed to be a five-minute train trip, but there he is, over two and a half hours later and five hundred kilometers to the north. And somehow he feels like he's got nowhere. Sucked into a journey he had no intention of takin, baffled, and exhausted, his body leaden and his mind like a gauze."
This is how I felt throughout most of the story, especially when the Prince was involved. I didn't care for most of the characters, everyone was annoying and I just wanted it to end. But as soon as the grandparents got involved, things were actually starting to become fun.
I absolutely loved it when they got the upper-hand of the Prince and used his own game against him. It's always so incredibly satisfying when that happens to characters like the Prince!!
I gotta admit, the Prince was an interesting character. But his personality is just so exhaustingly annoying. If I met him irl, I'd totally make sure to stay away from him. Not because he's dangerous (well, that too, maybe), but mostly because of his character. Felt like I lost 10 good years out of my life. And more years are slipping away from me, just by thinking of him. My face wrinkles, as I lie here like Aurora does in her bed...
Okay, too dramatic?
I was honestly surprised by some deaths – characters, who were almost just as annoying, and because they were, I didn't think they'd get the ending they got. No spoilers here, because as said, almost everyone was annoying.
I think I only cared about 2 people, Wataru and Nanao. Well, the letter wasn't that important, but I was curious what would happen to him with all his bad luck. You never knew with him, literally everything was possible. A POV worth following, lol.
On the other hand, Maria, a character that worked with Nanao and therefore always appeared in his chapters, was also one of the characters I really dislike, so not that much worth reading.
The grandparents in the second half were really cool though, and these chapters truly were fun. I'm glad I didn't drop the story and continued, because that was genuinely worth it.
The story itself is meh. I usually love thrillers, since it's exciting to guess together with the characters who might do what, who's the bad guy, etc. But this was rather laid out open, especially with the multiple POVs, there wasn't much to guess because the reader knew who was who, and who was pulling what strings. Sure, there were some revelations at the end, but really small ones.
It does feel a bit of a waste, honestly. As said, the ending was satisfying and I'm glad I got to the part, but overall... meh. It didn't feel like a thriller. I wasn't excited, quite the opposite: kept dozing off and getting tired here and there.
The writing style is good, and I'm not sure where the problem exactly was, that a thriller failed to be thrilling. It's not necessarily a bad book, and surely might be interesting to read through, but... simply meh. Best how I can describe it.

I'm confused.
The pacing is so off, and apart from some particular unique looking characters (mostly because of their clothes), every other character (especially the non-wolves) looks the same. The POV also switches back and forth with no transitions whatsoever.
It's not necessarily bad, I'm just confused.
I guess the authors expected only those, who watched the anime, to read this? 'Cause it feels like a bonus story to the anime, rather than the anime retold in manga form.

Well, that was quite a relaxing and needed break from the last volume.
Summer holidays!
The cover illustration makes it look like they were going to the countryside to go gardening, although they went to the beach.
In particular, they went to Rae's hometown and Claire met her parents.
And had a crossover with Pirates of the Caribbean, lol.
Claire is starting to realize why the commoners started the protest in the academy a while ago. And generally why they despise aristocrats.
She's also getting quite clingy to Rae. Which is funny to read, but I do miss their bullying/bickering a bit.
Rae's mother is a bit odd, but funny. Sure has some questioning habits, though...
She mentioned that Rae "might just disappear someday". Got me wondering. Since she didn't die before being reincarnated into this world... what if modern-Rei and fantasy-Rae simply swap places? Basically like Taki & Mitsuha in KNNW, but through different universes.
Rae's father is quite adorable indeed, and I totally can't unsee the tulip beard, lmao.
Things are starting to change again, and Rae's knowledge of the game's events might not be such an upper hand anymore. Which is overall good, I suppose, because that means things are changing for Claire's better sake as well.
~
Was quite a good volume. Made me laugh a lot as well.

So, uh, Claire's supposed to be straight, but her first true love was a girl? Mhm...
Didn't like this volume. I hate the love rival trope so much, especially when the "bottom" just sits there, does nothing, and even likes being fought for.
Would give it 1 star just for that.
However, the twist at the end was so unexpected and awesome, that it gets a better rating.
Still, though, my least favorite volume so far.
On the other hand, the brothers grew on me even more. They're becoming quite the comedy quartet, and I'm all here for it.

Wow, so many unexpected things happened! At least for me.
1) Yuu being the only one with common sense in the beginning. I didn't like him that much at first, but since this volume, he kinda grew on me. Which, yea, is all thanks to his logical thinking.
2) Thane assisting Rae and Claire in multiple cases. It's probably the most screen-time he's ever gotten, and also talked the most.
I still think he's hiding something and knows more than he lets people know, but, just like Yuu, he grew on me.
Also, his poor hair!
3) That one love tory and plot-twist-antagonist was also very unexpected, as it wasn't hinted at all.
–> I'm not really upset about that confession as some other reviewers, tbh. As said, it wasn't hinted at all, they're also side characters, and apart from a confession, there was no visual display of them feeling that way. I wouldn't even be surprised if that whole thing was just another lie for some bigger, still hidden, plot.
4) Backstory of Claire and Lene, and Claire and her mother.
5) I knew Rae won't be right with everything. While she did study the game in and out, of course things changed a bit since she was reincarnated in it and also changed some of the plot herself. What I didn't expect was that there's a whole new antagonist, and a character who's not even in the game.
The woman at the end, in the carriage. That's Claire's mother, right? They didn't show her dead body in the accident, so it is very possible she survived. What's she plotting now, though? With the commoners, trying to take the royals down? Or something entirely else, making a new conflict? Who knows. She's never really been mentioned, apart from Rae saying sth about Claire's hair being like her mother's, but that's it.
I missed the playful vibes of the previous volumes, tbh. While it sure is getting interesting and thriller-like, I did love the "bullying" chapters the most. Just carefree school days...

So, the scene I was excited for was a bit more melancholic in the anime (which I loved), but I could feel the emotions here too, nonetheless. Prefer the anime version though.
I did not expect that they pretty much skipped half of ep4 though. The whole fight scene.
It just went straight to the end of ep4, lol. Then again, the anime is based on the light novel, so maybe the manga simply didn’t include it.
All forgivable tho, because the water blob is way too cute!!! Relaire, you have my heart <3 (both the blob and the shipping lol)!

Wow, a lot has happened in this volume. The exams for the knight club, night patrol, being taught by Lene how to be a servant, cooking and baking together, and the festival...
Since Rae is saving the money for Claire, I think it’s bc of her role as a villainess? There might come a storyline where the villainess will lose it all, and so in case that happens, Rae saves up money, so that Claire will have sth at least? Just a theory, but if that’s the case... damn.
Also, Rae mentioned Claire saved her. Obviously she’s talking about her life before being reincarnated, so Claire as a game character saved her indirectly. Maybe she was suicidal bc of her job, and then found the game right when it was going really bad in her life, fell in love with Claire and decided to continue living, just so she can play the game?
Sth like that lol. Maybe not that far stretched.

Wanted to read the manga before watching the anime, but watched the first 4 episodes now and... well, I want more of them. Episode 5 comes out in 3 days and because I can't wait, I'll be reading this now! Hehe.
So, volume 1 is covered in episode 1-2 of the anime.
It’s kept very close to the manga, just some small differences here and there.
The art too is same, though I must say, I think I prefer the anime! The colors simply make it more lively, and that’s the vibe of the story. It’s still really well drawn in the manga, though.
Episode 3 was quite emotional, so am pretty excited to continue with volume 2 and see how a particular scene is presented there.

What a cute little book! *-*
I loved the illustrations, the art-style and that some pages are dark because it plays at night! Also such a wonderful message for kids who are afraid of the dark.
I'll definitely be getting the other volumes!
Wondering though, why is Kitty faced to the right on the english (original) cover, but to the left in almost every other language?
~~~
Was ein süßes kleines Buch!
Ich liebe die Illustrationen, den Zeichenstil und dass manche Seiten dunkel sind, weil es nachts spielt! Außerdem eine tolle Message für Kinder, die sich im Dunkeln fürchten.
Ich werd mir die anderen Bände auf jeden Fall auch holen!
Frag mich nur, warum Kitty auf dem englischen (originalen) Cover nach rechts läuft, aber in fast allen anderen Sprachen nach links?
