When people said, Convince me, she knew it didn’t mean they had an open mind. It meant they had power and wanted to enjoy it a minute.
The Negatives
There were two things that I didn't like about this book.
1. Ending was dragged.
2. The book alternate between multiple timelines, and it was hard to keep up because there were no titles or any other hint to suggest what timeline we were following.
The Positives
The plot is the strongest point of this book. The way the magic works in this world is so terrifyingly real. It made me wonder how media and advertising companies are using our personal data including our psychographics to manipulate us. This story follows two main characters: Emily and Wil. Emily is a student at the school that teaches the art of word magic. At the school she is taught to identify personality types and the words she can use to manipulate different personality types.
Wil along with his kidnapper is on the run from someone named Virgina Woolf. They are trying to survive and also looking for a bareword - a word that can wreck havoc in the wrong hands, a word that defies the rules of word Magic.
These two stories eventually converge and make for a very engrossing and Interesting read. it will keep you on the edge of your seat.
it's one of the best magical realism, I have read this year. I absolutely loved it, despite my two issues with this book, I highly recommend it. This will leave you with a lot of thoughts about our own world and how certain set of words are able overpower us.

No, I am not crying, you are crying. 😭 This gave me too many feelings. I'd go from laughing to crying in a matter of minutes. It was a wrecking ball of emotions. I loved it so much. Would recommend it to everyone.

This book is good for people suffering from insomnia. The big reveal wasn't predictable but it wasn't shocking either. I didn't care much about the characters, they were all boring. Book was filled with plot holes and usual YA drama. Teenagers were hacking and extracting confidential information while the police were doing nothing at all.
Thank God! It's over now I can start something good.

Lean is an important book and all working women should read it.The strategies Sheryl has shared in the book may not be perfect, but there is nothing else women can do at the moment to excel in their careers. We live in an imperfect world and though we can't change the world, we can change ourselves. A little effort goes a long way, and hopefully soon we will see more women in the workforce.

My thoughts
I was reluctant to pick this book up because of all the hype around it but I am glad I did. It surprised me. The book was fast paced and loved the fairy world. It was just the right amount dark and creepy and fun and amusing. Plot was good with ample amount of hard to predict twists. One scene in particular reminded me so much of the Red wedding scene from Game of Thrones. It was really gruesome and unexpected. I am super scared for the next book, however, the turn of events has led me to believe that the next book will lose its originality to typical YA tropes. I am really hoping that It won't.
The book started with me hating cardan for his cruelty and ended with me sympathizing for him. Jude, our main protagonist, was a little too ambitious. I didn't like her but then her character was built to be unlikable. She is a hero with questionable morals. Tayrn was stupid, annoying, spineless twin sister of Jude who did nothing except for complicating things. I loved Vivi, and I would love to know her a little more.
In conclusion, I'd say that this book deserves all the hype it is getting. Its a really good YA fantasy book. Very different and very unique. Worth the read.

“Why is time like that? Why does it slow down in the places you don’t want it to, but it speeds away when you’re happy?”
“It didn’t…feel like nineteen days. It was like a thousand years…longer than my whole life before it. Why?”
"I remember when Julian was a little kid, he was so stubborn, but maybe that’s a good thing to be—a force of will that doesn’t die no matter how many horrible things happen to you."
My Thoughts
This book was beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. It was one big emotional punch to the gut. Reading what happened made me quite uncomfortable and angry. Something no book has ever made me feel before. When I reached to a certain plot point, it became almost impossible for me to put the book down. I stayed up to finish the book because I needed to know how it was going to end.
Every character in the book was relatable in their own way. Julian and Adam were little marshmallows. I loved them more than I ever have loved any fictional character. Adam was the perfect brother and a friend to Julian, and Julian was too good for this world. We don't often see two males with close bonds outside the gay context. It was really refreshing to see Julian and Adam caring about each other and expressing it as guys often think that expressing their feelings for one another makes them look weak, which is ridiculous. Charlie and Emerald were great too. I loved how Charlie went from disliking Julian to caring about him. And I hated Russell with a burning passion. If I could, I would punch him in the face for what he did. His cruelness and callousness matched with Doleres Umbridge. I don't think I need to say anything more about him.
My only issue was with the ending. It was predictable, something that has been done a million times before.
Summary
In this book we follow two main characters: Adam and Julian. Adam is serving as an aide to the school psychologist. One day the school psychologist asks him to track down a kid who has been dodging her, and Adam discovers that the boy is his former foster brother - Julian. Adam hasn't seen him since his uncle took him away 5 years ago. Adam excited to reconnect with him but soon he discovers that something is off about him. He isn't the same chatty boy anymore that he once knew. Adam becomes a brother/friend to Julian and helps him with blending in. But Julian is keeping secrets that Adam is determined to find out.
There is a trigger warning for abuse so keep that in mind before going into this book. That being said I think this is an important book that everyone should read.

OMG! This is a fine piece of literature. This deserve more than 5 stars. I am completely mind blown. Thank God I have the second book cos I cannot wait to read more of this beautiful crafted intricate world. I wish by the time I am done with the second one we at least get the release date for the third book. I don't know how how anyone who has read hasn't died of anticipation and longing for the third and the final book. I so scared, I don't know what I am gonna do when I am done with the second book. This book has raised the bar, I don't think I'd be able to enjoy any other book after this.
Ahh!
Anyway, highly recommend this book. It's one the finest fantasy book out there. I love the magic system. I just go crazy when the magic system is complicated and realistic, when authors go a step further in creating resemblance between their world and our world. I had to research to understand the physics and chemistry of the magic. It was so, so well done.
I am losing my shit over this book. Can't rave about it enough.

First 400 pages were the continuation of book one and rest of the book felt like short stories from kvothe's life. I really enjoyed reading the first 400 pages of the book, and rest bored me to death. Everything after the Maer part was dragged out, and had me wanting kvothe to return to the familiar territories. I was missing all the old characters, and I was feeling nothing for the new ones. Also, kvothe began to get on my nerves, I really didn't like him in this book. The book was longer than first one, and it really felt like it. The pacing was slow and some parts were a pain to read. However, when kvothe returned to the university, everything was back to normal, and I was in love again.
I am glad i am not the only one who felt this way about this book, there are so many people who didn't like this book as much as the liked the first one. so at least I am not alone.
If I had read this book when It came out, I would have lost Interest by now for sure. It's not good enough to keep one anxious for the third book for 7 years. I repeat 7 years.
I loved the writing. Patrick is an amazing writer, no doubt. I loved how descriptive these books were and how they took me to another world. I have never read anything more engrossing than these books, ever. However, like i mentioned before there were parts in the second book, specifically, that weren't that Interesting. But I don't think it was the writing that made those parts boring, they just felt out of place to me. I didn't know how to connect them with the main story and what the purpose of those parts were. so I guess it was more my dumbness than anything else.
Not a perfect book, but a definitely an Interesting one.
