Ordeal by Innocence by Agatha Christie
2.0
I hate to say this but I'm feeling quite disappointed with this book.
The premise really got me excited and intrigued but it might be the only thing I like about it. A mother/wife was murdered and one of her adopted sons, Jacko Argyle who eventually died while serving his sentence. Two years too late came Arthur Calgary and he provided and alibi for Jacko which proves that Jacko definitely didn't commit the murder. So, who did it?
In true Agatha Christie fashion, there are several suspect which I love. I like having a bunch of people to let my suspicion jumps around as I read.
What bothers me was that there wasn't a strong investigator voice. There were things and the characters' annoying point of views (for example, adopted children don't belong to their adoptive families) kept repeating in the book.
Anyways, the ending/reveal just got be really annoyed and was quite anti-climatic :/ I'm sad to say that I had to give this a 2 stars. I'm looking forward to watch the TV adaptation and see if it's better that way lol.

A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman

If you want to read a book that will tug at your heartstrings, this is the book for you. A Man Called Ove made me laugh, smile, cry and sometimes even a little annoyed.
It’s so lovely to see how the characters evolve throughout the story. And I don’t say this often but I’m looking forward to reread this in the future.

The Outsider by Stephen King
3.0
This is my first Stephen King book and I’m very sure there are other books by him that are incredible because unfortunately, this didn’t blow my mind.
It started off really well and I was hooked but the second half of the book needed extra attention. It felt slightly dragged :/ I appreciated the details and the atmosphere but I do feel that the pace could have been better. But hey, that’s just me.
I don’t love it but I also don’t hate it. I just think that this could have been a clever crime novel without the added “element”.

The Chalk Man by C.J. Tudor

Right off the bat, I will say that this book got my attention right from the prologue. Creepiest prologue I've ever read! It only took me two days to read and the fastest I've ever read a book was probably a week (I'm a slow reader). It has the right pacing and I was definitely not bored.
The story alternates between 1986 and 2016 but it not even a little bit confusing (if dual timeline worries you). For someone who loves a good whodunnit, this one has so many for me to guess from! Even though, I do wish for it to be a bit more dark/creepy/scary/etc, I do highly recommend you give it a try. Read the prologue, tell me you aren't intrigued ;)
What a great debut novel! I'm looking forward to read more from the author.

Lost Boy by Christina Henry

Fairytales retelling or any kind of fantasy books aren't really something I would go for. I don't even look thought the shelves when I'm in the bookstore. But I was craving to read a dark retelling and Lost Boy did not disappoint. (Phew!)
I personally think that this was such a well-written book that kept me hooked (no pun intended). The characters, including Peter, have so many layers. They are childish, mischievous, caring and evil (at least some of them are).
The only version of Peter Pan I know is from the Disney movie and the other one that came out in 2003. (You know, the one with Lucius Malfoy as Captain Hook lol). And, I'm actually looking to reading the original Peter Pan and rewatching the movies again because I know I won't look at Peter the same ever again. If you want to keep your memory of Peter, you may want to stay away from this but let's live dangerously and read a dark retelling that is filled with adventure, intrigued and of course, carnage ;)
I'm so impressed and I'm really really looking forward to reading all the retellings by Christina Henry.

The Kind Worth Killing by Peter Swanson

WHOA! What a book! I can’t believe it took me this long to pick this up but better late than never. This book is all kinds of madness. All the twists and turns that I thought I knew, turns out to be completely shocking.
Such a page-turner of a book that I devoured in two days. I could NOT stop. Great characters, great plot, great twists - and most importantly, THAT ENDING. Wow.
And the more I think about it, the more I like this book. I can’t wait to read more from Peter Swanson.

Why I'm No Longer Talking to White People About Race by Reni Eddo-Lodge
5.0
I must admit that I have not read many book on the topic of race in the UK and this book became such an eye-opener for me. I read this book with a buddy who lives in England and we had so much discussions going on. If you're hesitant to read this, for some reasons, read it with a friend or a buddy you can find in Goodreads.
No matter what your race is, I think everyone should at least read this.

Peril at End House by Agatha Christie

I must say, if I thought Poirot was savage before, he was even more savage in this book. So many LOL moments here. Especially when Hasting said “Poirot,I have been thinking." and Poirot went "An admirable exercise my friend. Continue it.”
