I tore through this book in a mere two days. Mona, our protagonist, is quirky and funny, although her humor is quite dark. Beagin is able to create this literary masterpiece and take on difficult subjects like sexual abuse, incest, and substance addiction in under 250 pages. An unexpected enjoyable read, as I picked it up at the library based on its pink cover!

It took me a long time to actually get into this book and I can't with a good conscious give this read more than three stars. Character development was just okay and I never really connected with any of the major ones (Eve, Detective, Mia). However, since I was looking for a thriller with a twist ending, I was not disappointed. I am unsure if I will give Kubica another chance... but we will see!

I could only give this book three stars because the character Sue confused me so much. Her behavior at the end of the book was so “out-of-nowhere” and really did not make sense. I have read better pieces of literature by King and would have been fine never having picked up this book.

Oh boy, this book held my attention from the moment I started reading. I feel guilty though because I really liked Amy, as a character. I know she was supposed to be written as unlikeable, but a genius, psychotic female lead always gets my favor over other less interesting characters. Nick was boring and I was happy with how Flynn decided to let this storyline play out.

Oh boy, this was a long one — just shy of 750 pages. This literary work gives a unique perspective about the pro choice/anti choice movement and debates the true meaning of martyr. What makes a martyr and who decides who is one? This fictional story of two families intertwined by a tragic event debates these questions and more.

An honest, intellectually stimulating memoir about Doughtry’s experience working in the death industry. I learned a lot about the history of death and was able to form my own opinions about the subject given her experiences and historical examples weaved into each chapter.

Police corruption, mobster mentality, and master detective skills are the highlights of this book. A brilliant mystery novel set in England with an unpredictable ending.

Scary, confusing, and complicated are three words I would use to describe this book. I certainly had no idea who killed Rosita and her daughter until the very end. This novel probably contains one of the biggest plot twists in literary history, so if you’re a fan of that writing technique, this is the book for you.

Maybe I was missing something, but to me these short stories seemed so incomplete. It’s one thing to leave the message or moral of the writing up for interpretation, but it’s another to not leave enough clues so that no interpretation can be made by the reader. I am thoroughly disappointed by this because the stories themselves have so much potential... and I enjoyed the characters Packer develops in each one.

The last book of my 2019 summer reading! I found myself flying through this novel, but was disappointed with how it ended. I feel like the work that the author put into developing Quincy and Tina, was all for nothing due to the anticlimactic, seemingly thrown together ending. However, until the last 30 pages, it was a great book hence the four star rating!
