I really enjoyed this story and all of the characters (particularly loved Christine and Mick), but I did not enjoy the ending at all! I thought it was abrupt and did not give the readers the closure I believe they deserved. It made me rethink my choice to commit time to reading the novel and knocked a four star book down to a three star review.
The Sun Does Shine: How I Found Life and Freedom on Death Row
Lara Love Hardin, Anthony Ray Hinton
This is an incredible read. Everyone, and I mean everyone, should read this book. Hinton, a once wrongfully convicted inmate on death row, recalls his time in prison and the people he encountered. Now, proven innocent, Hinton works as an advocate for the abolishment of the death penalty. No person, no matter how seemingly evil they are, should be punished with death and if you don’t believe that already, this book will convince you of it.
A quick read with a not so satisfying or believable ending. I will not be continuing this series and would not recommend this novel. While the character development is good, other crucial parts of the book (including the plot) fall flat.
I’m not one for thrillers usually, but it would be unjust to give this novel anything less than five stars. King, the master of weaving the supernatural and reality together into a seamless plot, really hit it out of the park with this one. Highly recommend his newest novel to anyone looking for a gruesome, skin-crawling read.
I read the entire book in just one day! A fantastic, “true crime”-esque novel. Unlike other books of the same caliber, I did not predict the ending and was satisfied when the truth came out about the terrible night in the Day household.
