The first half of this book dragged. The characters came across as whiny, and I struggled to care about their interpersonal drama. Still, I kept reading after hearing that the “plot twists were so good and unexpected,” and (as much as I hate to admit it) they were right. I didn’t see any of the twists coming, and they were just grounded enough to feel believable. In the end, Feeney’s strong storytelling saved Rock Paper Scissors from a lower rating.

The Conjurer’s Wife is a perplexing yet captivating read. I'm a fan of Penner’s writing, and her talent translates beautifully to the short story format. It was especially fun to read this right after her latest release, The Amalfi Curse, since it’s set in the same world and includes a few subtle nods to that novel. I continue to be impressed by Penner’s storytelling and wholeheartedly recommend her entire catalog.

Do I now enjoy the single-dad trope? And if so, is that a sign that I am now a full-fledged adult? The Strawberry Patch Pancake House was absolutely delightful. I loved being back in Dream Harbor, and the chemistry between the two love interests, Archer and Iris. Truly, I don’t think I will ever get tired of returning to this small New England town and watching its residents fall in love.  While this wasn’t my favorite installment in the series, I still thoroughly enjoyed it!
