I know this is crazy, but somehow I read every other Ali Hazelwood book published before Aug 2024, BEFORE reading The Love Hypothesis. I am not sure how I missed the 1st book but I did and I am SO HAPPY I went back for it. I am a Reylo fan-fic fan and I will not apologize for it. Something about the dark hair-ed grump being head over heels for his girl just does it for me every time.

I really enjoyed this book. Olive has my whole heart. I love a girl in STEM, fighting the good fight against the patriarchy. and while I don't love that women often struggle to understand their worth and be proud of their abilities, it is something I heavily relate to so I can't fault the book for it.

Adam is a big grump who is just very serious about science. Even when being told this, he kind of doubles down, which I really enjoyed. I think he showed the "grumpy" of the grumpy x sunshine trope doesn't automatically mean the man has to be a big tough alpha a**hole.

Things I didn't really like... Olive's friends. Specifically Anh, she was weird and pushy. I am thankful she is already in love, because I would not want to read her book.

3.5 stars.

This book gives 2010 YA fiction vibes.
I loved the premise of the book and the dual POVs. I liked how we got to see the story unfold through a new member & older member of the sorority. The magic system was interesting, different types of witches using tarot & the elements. But it was also really easy to follow.

I am in a sorority so I really enjoyed that aspect. It felt nostalgic and I loved the focus on friendship/sisterhood and supporting each other.

The book falls a little flat in the romance for me. Especially in Viv's relationship. It felt like a betrayal to me and I just didn't see the chemistry. A college senior spending time with & flirting with a freshman (when he has gf) just gave me the ick.

Overall it was a quick read that I would recommend to a younger YA reader.

3.5 stars. I liked this one, but I didn’t love it.  It was so cozy, but to the point of being a bit boring.  (Note I have a teeny tiny attention span) It really started to pick up around the 50% mark, so if you’re more patient than me, you might love this.

I loved that this took place in a queer normative world and that our main couple features a bisexual woman & a lesbian woman. I also loved the FMC, marigold.  I think everyone can relate to having your heartbroken and swearing off love, & it makes finding your soulmate after even sweeter.

This story also has a beautiful take on grief.  It was nice watching Mari reconnect with her grandmother as an adult and through the memories ingrained in her home.

I think this book would be great for fans of The Seven Year Slip, but want a more fantastical version.
