Bikers, guns, and errant nephews abound! Temperance Brennan is thrust into the deep end of a drug war that crosses borders and kills children. She won't stop until she gets her answers. I felt the pacing was struggling a little in this offering from Ms. Reichs. This was only the third novel in the series. Understandable that there are still some stylistic bugs to work out.
Some of the characters are still very one and two dimensional. As the series moves forward i imagine more depth will be added. This book kept me invested start to finish. I even had to remind myself of the value of sleep once or twice.

Ms. Reichs has done it again! I stayed awake late with twitching eyes finishing this, it was that compelling. She found a way to make the cult as murder suspect angle fresh. I had no idea who the big kahuna was until the very end pages.
I kept expecting slightly more resolution than I got though. This was only her second book though. I'm used to the stronger resolutions of her later work.

Susan Lucci is a favorite of mine. I never actually watched all my children. I have seen her in devious maids. This book was an easy read. It might be more than that for someone who has seen the show that it is largely about.

This one was kind of so so for me. It held my attention more in the latter half. I'm not a huge fan of starting in the middle of the action. Otherwise it was an intriguing premise.

Wow. Massacre burial to septic tank murder. Tempe Brennan is having a rough month. Between that and the two hot detectives lighting her fire, I don't know how she gets any sleep.
The story seemed a little disjointed to me. Until the end wrap up chat. Never drink diet soda, that shit will try to kill you. Pacing was slow to start. Once again the second half flew by.

Some of the detail work in this story was very beautiful to imagine. That Being said...
Atlantis Rising is supposed to be the story of how the lost city of Atlantis was created. The first two thirds of the book are all about a thief with a serious sweet-tooth. It isn't until about the last third that it picks up and begins the actual creation myth. From there it whizzes through a ton of fine details that will be totally missed if it is not read slowly enough.
All in all, not my thing. it might be yours, though.

I feel this book is important. Full of pioneering women. I also feel strongly that it should have been about four books that went into deeper detail about the women. I will be buying this book someday as i find that even this soon after finishing it I already can't remember things from it.

This was honestly such a lousy and somewhat racist read. You can convey contempt without resorting to calling people known racist terms. That being said this was written in the early to mid 90's. The standards of writing were far below where we are now.
The pacing and plot were unusual and smooth for what they were. To be clear there is no sequined love nun in this book. There is however a megalomaniacal, borderline rapist, fully racist false idol.

That was one hell of a ride. This book should be required reading.
Noah shares his experience growing up in a post apartheid South Africa. He also shares what it was like to live with an abusive monster the world views as a saint. Through a blend of very hard truths and ridiculous childhood antics, Noah puts a face to apartheid and to abuse.
I highly recommend reading this book.
