The first in the Suits series, Wild Card was so much fun I wasn't ready to leave the world. Prince Teo decides to spite his father and carry out a legend he promised he wouldn't. He quickly realises he should have listened to his father when he finds himself in another realm.
Inspired by Alice in Wonderland, Teo finds himself thrown into a realm in unrest. After the death of the king, his four daughters all expected to become queen. As such they have carved their own queendoms reflecting a suit of cards - Hearts, Spades, Clubs, and Diamonds. Let me tell you, I was OBSESSED with the aesthetic of these queens!
Bonus Points: Wild Card bucks the usual traditionally published fantasy trend by not only being inclusive, but it occurs naturally!

The author and illustrator of this book has truly captured those nightmares I had as a child. Whilst I wouldn't read this to my child until he was a lot older, I would definitely recommend this to any adults who want a fun scare!
Minor: Torture, Murder
Poorly written, and an unbelievable plot (there are ways the plot could have been more believable, even within the unrealistic storyline).

The concept of this book is very intriguing on paper, with strong American Physco vibes. Upon reading though, it didn't work for me. I have come to realise I just don't like the way men tend to write women. I think this would be a great book if you could look past this, but too many things just didn't sit right with me, unfortunately.

This isn't a 'how to write a book' book, it is more about the tangled love and hate one has when trying to write a book. Joe Moran almost uses this as a brain dump as he goes on a journey of understanding surrounding words, both writing and reading them.

A Deadly Education takes place at a magic school that wants to kill all the students. We follow El as she tries to survive her time at Scholomance, as well as navigating Orion Lake, who just keeps saving her life! El is the sarcastic protagonist we all secretly want to read about. She does ramble a lot, but it ends up being part of the charm of the writing style. I am looking forward to book two.

This collection of Norse stories has been put together and presented by Neil Gaiman. With his usual charm, Neil Gaiman brings life to the mythological characters and is well worth a read.

I always welcome more Nikolai content and loved seeing more of the well-loved characters from previous books (including my all-time favourite Grishaverse character). At its heart, King of Scars delves into how different people respond differently to traumatic experiences, such as SAB and SOC.
Minor: Violence
