beautifully written and well researched, but the witches were so secondary to the story that I kind of wish he had just written this as historical fiction.
Graphic: Child abuse, Pedophilia
"hippie family from a commune adjusts to life in the real world" would be the interesting story to follow for part 2 of this book. instead, the author skips to when the protagonist is a morose middle aged man dealing with Important Current Events. really ran out of steam in the middle and I had to push through to finish, even though the author's writing is gorgeous. also hilarious that this involves a global pandemic in the year 2019.
very strong writing and great worlbuilding. I loved the scientific/ecological approach to dragons. but ultimately it was way too short. the story did not feel finished and the ending was quite abrupt. I still highly recommend this novella(?) as a great example of fantasy climate fiction.

Absolutely loved the systematic approach and use of examples from all over the world in this book. This quality really sets this book apart from other self-help or spirituality books.
