The humor just doesn’t work for me and it feels like a complete slog. It might be because I’ve never read Three Men in a Boat.

I think this is the book that will finally get me to stop reading YA once and for all.

If you like constant luxury brand namedropping, a lukewarm romance, and no plot, this book is for you.

Let's Get Physical: How Women Discovered Exercise and Reshaped the World

Danielle Friedman

DID NOT FINISH

It's not really a history of women's exercise as it is a series of essays about the founders of famous women's fitness studios/trends. The chapter about Bonnie Pruden and the chapter about running were stellar to me, but the rest of it was boring, repetitive and focused way too much on rich fitness entrepreneurs rather than the people who actually did their workouts. I understand why people love it, I just found it pretty boring.

Nihilistic and alarmist. And this is coming from a person who works in climate. I don’t understand who this book is for.

call me a prude, but a romantic relationship between and old woman and a teenage girl is not okay for me. and neither is the constant sexualization of minors throughout this book.

Fledgling

Octavia E. Butler

DID NOT FINISH

I loved Kindred, so I expected to love this book too. unfortunately, this just wasn't it for me. octavia butler's writing style and incredible imagination were the only things that kept me reading. I loved her conceptualization of vampires, family, and justice, but the book did drag. I also couldn't get past the fact that the main character is a child. every scene in my head I was yelling "she's in a ten year old's body!!" I don't really understand why that choice was made and honestly, it made a lot of the scenes make me sick. I will definitely give butler's other books a try but this one was a miss.
