Hilarious as expected! Also deep sometimes and adorable. Perfect light read for in between heavier books.

Loved this story of a big African American family in Detroit as they figure out what to do with their family home and navigate each others' joys and challenges. I really related to a lot of the characters; many reminded me of some of my own family figures.

I will probably read everything that Adichie puts out because she's that good. This book was an emotionally tough read because of the influence of the challenging father figure over the main character, but the writing is fantastic. My only beef is with the ending -- it felt way too rushed and needed to be extended a bit more.

This is one of those really tough books to review. It's a heavy, sad, and long, but at the same time there are some really poignant messages about living, perseverance, friendship, and love. I'm impressed that Yanagihara tackled a main character with so much baggage and self-hatred, even though it's challenging to get through at times.

I love Coates' boldness. He's a true intellectual of the modern age and he'll give it to you straight what he thinks about race relations today. I'm amazed at his ability to draw wisdom from his own difficult life experiences and then create a broader narrative from that. I'm sure this book has sparked some heated discussions, but it's really one to make sure you read.

This was the first graphic novel I've read for a really long time, and it was a good one to pick up. Satrapi shows a really detailed picture of Iran in the past few decades from the perspective of a child. I loved the illustrations and the little bits of humor she was able to incorporate into an otherwise heavy subject.

I found the first book to be more endearing, but this was still a really great exploration and coming-of-age story of what it means to be of a certain class and from Iran.

Complex and intriguing book for anyone interested in Colombia or South America in general. It's both a coming of age novel and a well-researched look into Colombia post the Pablo Escobar era.
