This is one of those really tough books to review. It's a heavy, sad, and long, but at the same time there are some really poignant messages about living, perseverance, friendship, and love. I'm impressed that Yanagihara tackled a main character with so much baggage and self-hatred, even though it's challenging to get through at times.
